I chose magnacore, because from my days of working on civics, nology tends to arch once in a while. No matter how good you ground the strap. So keeping in somthing prefabricated and somthing in a thicker diamater, I found magnacore. I was thinking MSD, but Im not a fan of anything thats universal.

It is quite easy with some very basic tools:

Change them both if you're into wasting money. That kind of mileage is nothin' compared to what I have. If the plugs are stock Densos or NGK's then maybe I'd change them at 20K. If they're platinums, then leave them until 100K. Plug wires rarely go bad unless you're playing with them all the time. Check the resistance and as long as they're in spec, save the money to spend on Christmas.

For plugs mine where done by the PO at 35 and I did them at 60K. When I did mine they showed pretty good erosion of the electrode and grounds. I also noticed a slight increase in mileage and power after replacement. The best thing is that the oem 3.4 plugs are only $2.00 or something from my dealer. Note the plugs the PO had in where the factory spec'd Densos.

To Hutch I'd leave the plugs till they have at least 20k on them I think there is a point of diminishing returns after changing them under X miles. Mine showed that they where still burning good but after the change I think its at least worth it to do a change at 20-25k. Just my .02

i just changed out the plugs and wires on my '00 taco 2.7L (100,000 miles) , to NGK platinum and Magnacore 8.5mm. the truck ran very well b4, and it still does. i might even imagine that it fires more smoothly, evenly and powerfully now.

one strange thing, the idle rpms went up about 100 to 150 rpm from b4. after about 100 miles, it came back down.

the rpm thing could have been the new wires and plugs (?) - but i did a bunch of other maintenance at the same time (cleaned TB and MAF sensor, synthetic oil change, new belts), so no telling.

... Magnacore wires is what LC Engineering is pushing, and I've been happy with their products and picks so far (except for the cat back that didn't even close to fit).

I do mine every year (or about 20k) but 20-25k would be a good estimate. They are cheap compared to the price of gas now so why wouldn't you keep your motor as efficient as possible? Bad plugs can also cause other electrical problems due to the plug resistance going up as the electrode wears (remember electricity always finds the path of least resistance)....best thing is to set up a regular schedule to change them.

If your truck is close to stock and you pay over $40 for wires then you are just throwing money away in my opinion. I like NGKs or Accels.

Don't make the mistake I made. A couple years ago I put Champion "Truck" plugs and wires on my 3.0. I didn't use it much over the following year or so, but when I did it had trouble starting and ran really crappy. I decided to replace the distributor and plugs to see what happened. When I pulled the plugs, several of them were cracked and all of them were completely fouled...I don't know if they even had 2,000 miles on them. I replaced the cap with OEM and the plugs with NGK and it runs waaaay better. I haven't replaced the wires yet, because I tore up the originals when I pulled them off, but I'll swap those out as well, maybe after Christmas.

On another car, my Explorer, I was running some plugs that had multiple electrodes, I think they were Bosch brand. Anyway, they made my engine run hot, causing predetonation and pinging constantly...going up hills was flat emberassing because it would lose power so fast. I swapped them out with some single electrode Autolites, and the problems disappeared. I don't know how our Toy engines would handle multi-electrode plugs, but something else to think about at least.
