Aftermarket Plug wires

Can anyone recommend a good set of aftermarket spark plug wires? I know MSD makes a universal set, but I would like to try and get a set that is made just for the 4runner.

I got the borg warner set from pep boys recently when I did my plug change on the 3.4L, they are specific and seemed well made. $44 + tax.

My mechanic thinks Toyota's plug wires are one OEM item worth paying for, although when he couldn't get them in a timely fashion he said NGK would be good also.

Yeah, I wanted the ngk's because i like the plugs, but I needed the wires on sunday and my local NAPA was closed.

Has anyone tried nology wires? I know they're rather spendy but their write ups sound like they might be worth the extra $.

I got Mangacores 8.5mm they arnt that bad. Thier supposed to last a life time. But I think Im gonna buy some NGKs

Any problem with your Magnacores? I was considering them... Why the switch to NGK?

I have seen two types of NGKs, one type has a boot that helps the plug wire stay on the distributor cap, while the other does not have these boots. Make sure you verify that you got the boot type. Dont make my mistke.

One of my buddies used to work at MSD and always raved about their components...But now that he's away from there he sticks with OEM (Mopar) items...I think the MSD rhetoric may have some science behind it, but is not necessary with most modern, stock engines.

As for me, I stick with Toyota...They fit all the looms...even come with replacement loom pieces, they work exactly like they are supposed to and my old 3.0 still gets about 19mpg. Sometimes good enough is good enough.

When my truck started getting 12mpg around town, I asked my dad when was the last time he replaced the plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. (He owned it before me.)

He said never, unless toyota did it for him during the timing belt changes.

So that means my OEM plug wires, distrib. and rotor lasted 251,000 miles!!!!

That alone sold me on Toyota's ignition system being better than anything aftermarket.

Right now after doing that and changing the plugs, my power is back. Im back to drifting around corners when the pavement is wet! I love it!

i work in hte car industry and i heard that unless your ign system is upgraded a lot, dont get nology wires... from what i have heard, they are too powerful and fry the igniter source as they have some type of capacitor thing in them... something like that....

ngk stuff is pimp!

Can't get any better than what came with the trucks from the factory...I saw OEM all the way for stuff like that, thats all I use.

Nology wires work great. They are proven to boost performance on the 2.4 (22RE) and 3.0. They are still R&Ding the 3.4 wires, cause they are having a hard time getting more power than stock wires.

I got some of the NGK blue silicone wires (spiral wound) from TaylorAutomotive.com delivered for 10 bucks less than the el-cheapos locally. I love them!

Taylor Automotive is a great place and has saved me big bucks!

Good brand name plugs and good brand name wires are just as good as oem, Im not a big oem person. And Im not worried about them lasting 251000 miles because the plugs will be changed every 30k and the wires every 60k.

Nology,Magnecore's have proven to not even be worth the $75+ on modded cars and I had Magnecores on my Eclipse and they started having issues after a couple months so I went with a $40 set of Accels and they worked great for 3 years of racing on my Eclipse.

Especially on stock vehicles you should't have to spend over $50 for good performing plug wires.

I went to Taylor Automotive(great site) and looked up NGK wires. They only showed 3 wire for the kit on th 3.4. Are their only 3, not the 6 because of the coils on the other 3?

I bought a set from Wires4Cars and love 'em.

I went with 8mm wires in red, $52 shipped.

Note: the site's a bit weird to get around in. Start by picking "Toyota Trucks", find your year (ignore the engine sizes), click BUY, and then you can pick wire size, wire color and sleeve color.
