Aftermarket Exhaust on a 22RE
What do yall think about aftermarket exhaust(Flowmaster/Magnaflow) on a 22RE engine? Does it sound alright? Is it worth the money?
Im asking becuase Im thinking about getting some exhaust put on my 94 pickup and I heard alot of people say that its not worth it becuase they sound horrible.

Hey I have Downey headers, 2 1/4" pipe all the way, high flow cat, and a medium length Magnaflow muffler. It sounds kinda ricey, but not completely. I love it though.
I would say that example posted above is saaaweeeeet! Thats the deepest sounding 22re I have ever heard! I would go that route or try Magnaflow, as both are quality products.
Good luck and happy rice burning!

I'll bet that 4Runner has a horrible drone to it at highway speeds. It sounds good at idle but once he gives it gas it sounds obnoxious. Exhaust systems are really hard to pick out because everybody has their own idea of what sounds good. But I would recommend a 2-1/4" cat-back(plus the cat if you need to replace it) and preferrably mandrel bent pipes. I went with the Jardine system that Performance Products sells. Wait for their 10% off coupon and the complete cat-back is around $200 and it's aluminized and mandrel bent. Just get rid of the 3" tip they include, it looks too ricey. I put the NWOR 2-1/4 cat-back on my old 90 V6 pickup and it had a nice throaty, agressive sound to it. Either one will help you pick up some power and gas mileage.

I have the Flowmaster 40 on my 22RE equipped 4Runner. I also have 2.25 piping, hi-flow cat, thorley header, K&N FIPK affecting my flow. The sound is pretty cool. At wide open throttle it still sound liek a small engine winding out (Never gonna be able to fully hide that fact). It had a low rumble at idle. It is fairly loud but I love it. As far as a drone note on the freeway, I never noticed such a thing. Power increase was slightly noticeable. Nothing to poop yer pants about, but it was noticeable. I'd recommend the 40 series.

No muffler here, no drone, no power loss, and best of all it was cheap...1 lenght of pipe to fill in the gap. Sounds ok to me too. Wouldnt mind a muffler if i could afford it, just not something i wanna spend money on if i dont need it.
