i have come to the conclusion that the 3.0l toyotas are crap. i rebuilt my engine about 4 months ago including crankshaft for about 2k. ran fine after than then my thermostat stuck and blew my radiator, warping my heads. i just got those back in about 3 weeks ago, and finally was able to go on my mudding outing that i had been planning. i got there late so everyone was already there. i asked em how bad the pit was and they said they had all takin it in 2wd - and they were right, it wasnt that bad until a lot of people started going through it. i got across it in 2wd with just a lil bit of difficulty and then on the way back i bogged down so through it in 4l(my engine doesnt have enough power to effectively spin my 35's in 4h) after trying to get out in 4l i really bogged my tires down and got stuck- the weird thing was the much was only about half way up my tires. i popped one toe hook off being snatched and then finally had a tractor pull me out. i turned my engine off and was tlaking to my buddys and i had to go- so i went over to my car and cranked it up and heard the sound i never EVER wanted to hear again- definatly a lower end noise- my guess is a connecting rod.- i DID NOT ingest a drop of water at all. my engine didnt stall- everything was PERFECT. on the first rebuild i ingested water and it tore all of my journal bearings up, and chewed up the crank- this produced the same clicking sound. this is a BRAnd NEW crankshaft and new bolts and everything. how the HELL could this have happened? i understand it was a new rebuild but it wasnt that new. i dont recall revving my engine to extremely but i still dont think my connecting rod would crapped out because of it. any suggestions? ive put WAY too much money in this 3.0l- im done with it- they are crap

 

how many miles did you have on it?

 

when i originally got it the speedometer ÅÅÅÅ was broke- it said 60k but i dunno- he said it was a weekend truck- its a 94- my guess would be 100

 

im more questioning how many since you've rebuilt it. couple hundred or couple thousand?

 

just a couple hundred- just drove it to school and back and then it was out for about a month and a half because of the warped heads

 

Hmmmm.... I had 205,000 on my 3.0L and the guy I sold it to says he has over 260,000 on it. Neither of us had problems. And I used mine to tow. It was one of the best engines I had.

 

could have over revving my engine caused a journale bearing to break or a connecting rod to go bad?- im just amazed at how this could have happened- i know every single thing thats been done to this engine becuase ive done it

 

when my truck got a new rebuilt engine, I was told to drive in differant speeds, little bit of 55, 60, 65, 70 on long stretches to help break it in, and do that for about the first 300-500 miles. I have yet to rev the engine high since the only offroading i've done has been in 4lo and very easy for my truck to handle at low rpms. you over revving could have been damaging.
