I agree but there still pretty nice. I bought my '96 4runner with '99 coils already installed and it sat perfect (about 3/4" higher out back) but over the last few weeks i've been hauling lots of 16" patio bricks and bags of dirt (roughly 400-500lbs at a time). It drops a good 2 inches when loaded.
After all my Lowe's trips, I recently noticed the rear don't sit exactly the same as when i first bought it. It defintely isn't sagging but it does look about a half inch lower than before. Basically it's level. I'd recommend them if your looking to take the sag out of your '96-'98 4runner.

That is pretty normal for what happens with stock springs (99 coils or any year for that matter).....the more you load them the worse they sag later even when unloaded. The OMEs are a world of difference better if your going to carry any heavy loads or tow. I had my 4runner loaded with about 700lbs of quickrete and it still had no noticable sag in the rear and after unloading, it went right back to the original height before loading. I seriously looked at using the 99 coils on mine but that fact was enough for me to stick to my OME setup.

Lifting my 96 4Runner

Hi I have a 96 Toyota 4Runner V6 4x4 with stock 15" rims. I have
33/12.5/15" tires on now, they rub a little bit when I cut the wheel all the way to either side.

I am going to swap out my old springs for new 99 4Runner springs. Also a 3" front lift kit with a 1" Diff drop from Toytec lifts. I am also going to use new Tokico Trek Master RT shocks & struts.

Can someone tell me if this seems like a good lift to do. Also what would be my best option to keep the rear of my 4Runner level with the front?

I know this is a fairly old thread, but I am looking into swapping out my 02 coils with 99 Highlanders. That said, I have a few questions for the forum gurus (I do not consider myself one, admittedly);

1) Does anyone have a set laying around they'd want to sell?

2) I have some LC80 wheels sitting around, and I am finally going to swap them out on my 02 SR5. I see most people put on 265/75-16s on them with the stock setup, but if I put in the 99 springs and get a modest lift out of it would I be better off getting a slightly larger tire size? I'd hate to buy some expensive tires and then find out I could have gone one step bigger with no rub... Thoughts?...

3) (unrelated) I've never checked, but do 02 5 spoke stocker wheel caps work with LC80s, or do I need to get the LC80 caps? Just curious, and apologies for the unrelated question...

I have a 97 2wd with 99 tall springs and KYB shocks on all 4 corners. Since this thread was so old I'm not sure if anyone will care but this is what it looks like, raised my truck about 2 inches evenly and made my Tundra wheels look better. I'm not a hard core wheeler, driving on the beach is about as "off road" as I get, but I had to replace everything anyhow (old stuff had 152k), so I figured why not. I am thrilled with the end result. Hope this helps. Heres a before and after:

@dgoll75, looks good.

I was just thinking about adding in the tallboys (or LC80s), though as far as I can tell from the forums the 02 springs were decently tall to begin with... The concern I am now having is whether or not the truck will fit into my garage if I do that. I am replacing my 265/70-16s with 265/75-16s soon, which will add ride height. Add that to the fact that I am sporting a safari rack on the top, and you start getting really close to giving it a haircut on the way in... Eek.

Even with the 99 springs, 265/75/16 is as big as you can go without rubbing.

In fact I have 99 springs and 265/75/16 and rubbed the front tire once.

Cool - thanks. Any idea how tall the 99s would be next to the 02s? I'm having some difficulty locating the thread where I think I read that the 99s were modestly taller, but don't tower over the 02s...

99s are 1 inch higher than 2002 springs. That page is harder to find, sonoransteel redisigned their webpage. Here is the new link:

If you like the height of the 99 spings but arn't sure if they are tall enough. Keep in mind you can place a 10mm spacer from toytechlifts.com on top of them for an extra 1/4 inch of lift. I use the 1999 spings plus a 10mm spacer.

Without the 10mm spacer I measure 36.25" from the floor to the bottom of the fender flair. With the 10mm spacer it's 36.50" inches. This is with worn 265/75/16 tires.

Also, the OME 906 is just a tad higher than the 99 rear spring. The OME sping likes OME Shocks. The OME 906 should provide a stiffer ride than the 99 springs.

Lastly, changing the rear spings is so easy. I swaped my setup three times this summer. I had no idea how easy it was.

If you go any taller than the 99 spring plus a 10mm spacer, you'll need to make sure you have a long enough shock. My Tokico Trekmasters are on the short side compaired to the Bilstein equilivent. I would not want a OME 906 or any other taller spring without going to a longer shock at the same time.

Techinally, yes, my buddy runs BFG AT 265/75/16 on his stock 2001 Sport suspension (same as yours) and he likes it. However, I think the tires look too big.

Some 265/75/16 are taller than others, in general, the BFG's run small/shorter.

Unfortuneatly, the 265/70/16 BFG AT is about 50 bucks more per tire than the 265/75/16 so it is hard to justify paying more for a shorter tire.

I don't think using a LC wheel will make a differeance in your suspension/tire set up.

Again, much appreciated. I think the LC80s run a bit wider than the stock 5 stars, so they tend to sit a bit more flush than the stock setup. Add in a bigger tire size into the mix, and it'll probably change the setup slightly but nothing to get too worked up about.

I was going to run Bilstein HD struts up front with OME 883's and I have a set of Downey 3" rears that are brand new. Will the Bilstein HD's be ok for hte 883's and will I still have some rake using the Downey's or would the OME 881's be a better combo? Lift don't matter much as long as I can use the Bilstein HD's with them, but taller the better!!!!!
