99 4Runner Trans Question

I have the opportunity to buy a 99 Runner with a slipping tranny. I recall reading somewhere that this was a rare transmission, I believe it was the 99s that had the problems because of the AWD. Can anyone confirm this.

I have been looking around for a tranny for my 2000 limited 4wd and the trannys are not that hard to fine. They run about $600-$800 around here.

I have never heard that the 99's are some special rare transmission.
Should be the same as my 97, and these are really easy to find. In fact they are all over the place at wreckers.
If you up to the challenge, and the price is right, it might be something to consider.

I looked around, no one has 4runners much less the transmissions around here.

As it turns out it is the 2000s that had a different trany because of the AWD, and around here at least they are hard to find.
Thanks Guys

I thought it was just the transfer case that was different?
