My wife has a 99 2wd v6 4runner and I got a quote for: timing belt, water pump, serp belt, front brakes w/ rear serv, brake flush, trans flush w/filter, coolant flush, diff fluid and oil change for about $1600. Is this a good price or should I shop else where for a better price?

Do it yourself... well at least the belts, brakes, coolent flush. If you have basic tools, your set. You will save yourself a lot of money by doing stuff yourself.

Its all basic stuff, but the timing belt and water pump just takes time. tranny flush, go to AAMCO or something like that, its like 100$

so have the dealer/shop do the, timing belt and water pump. then go to a tranny shop for the flush.

no serpentine belt- get a quote from a competent mechanic, who at least knows what he's charging you $1600 for...

Sorry, drive belts. Only cost are the new belts, no labor since the tb is being done.

The only things you should have done at the shop is the timing belt, water pump, trans flush. That should run you ~$600 at the dealership. Make SURE the timing belt is oem, not am. The rest is super easy to do. SUPER easy.

Yeah, I was thinking about having the brakes flushed too since it's never been done and the fluid is very dark.

Just did all that myself (except tranny is manual). All parts and fluids somewhere between $300-$400, but I also did both idlers and tensioner. I'm at 115K and I don't want to go back in until at least 200K.

An honest dealership will take a look at your scheduled maintenance and only change or replace what is needed. If they replace and change all that stuff just because it says you're supposed to then I would go somewhere else.

I know it needs everything, I haven’t done anything except front brakes and oil changes since we got it with 70k (now has 105k) and all the fluids are very dirty. I'm thinking on just having them do the tb, water pump, belts, trans and brake flush so should be a lot cheaper.

My mechanic charges $1200 for that service. Shop around a bit if you're not going to do it yourself.

I think I’ll just have them do the tb factory, and aftermarket water pump and drive belts. How much should that run at an independent shop? I'm going to do the brakes and look for some specials on the trans and brake flushThanks for all the help! Kevin

Personally, I'd think twice about that aftermarket waterpump, if the bearings go in that, it won't matter if the TB is factory. Plus the OEM belts don't even cost anymore than say napa ones.
Use link below for cheap OEM parts and don't forget to change out the thermostat. There are other online places that might be closer (1st toyota out of WA state) but I don't know your location.
