99 4runner leaking rack and need advice

Hey everyone,
I do believe the seals behind the rubber boots on the rack are leaking. Like everyone here, i fear replacing any factory part with the inferior aftermarket trash.
Has anyone changed those seals in the rack or had any success adding a power steering leak fix to the system. 99 4runner V6 4wd
Again, i fear all aftermarket parts these days, so what was your experience with a leaking rack?
Thanks ! Kenny S.

Have you asked Toyota if the part is available, or sourced it aftermarket, I swapped the entire rack out since it had to come out anyways and replaced it with a 2nd hand rack.

Toyota racks are available new, mine was under $550 shipped at E.B. Toyota:

Find a Toyota parts group dealer near you...

I do remember seeing a thread about rebuilding an oe rack so time ago, maybe on T4R? IIRC it required some special tools- but I believe the entire rack was serviced.

As always, I agree with the above on getting an OEM Toyota steering rack or if you have the tools and patience, repairing your current rack.

Please don't put any type of power steering fix in a bottle. Much more often than not, they cause more problems in the long run than simply replacing the bad part.

I would personally take my chances on an aftermarket or remanufactured power steering rack before using a "fix in a bottle".

Same deal, replace the rack, especially if you have a leak at all 3 locations, I think they are 0-rings on the ends and wiper seals to protect them, but you need to completely dis-assemble the entire rack to get to them, the 2nd hand rack I bought was $100 and had 50,000Km. Lots of Taco racks around with low miles due to the frame recall, only diff was the outer tie-rod.
