98 runner rear window move after engine crank
Hi,
I have this weird problem with my 98 runner rear window. It will roll down so slightly, from full close position, if I insert my key, & start engine. It will only roll down when engine is cranking.
The window will not move again, if I stop engine, remove the key, re-insert, & re-crank, without putting rear window back to full closed position. It will roll down again, if I close rear window back to full closed position, & crank again.
The roll down movement is very so slightly without any gap is visible, but it is down enough to disbale rear defroster. Actually I only find out today, when I try to use rear defroster & the switch light did not came on.
Any idea where should I start checking?

Wow--Ghost-Busters LOL. No or have a friend test the window leads while you crank and see whether power is sent to the rear window motor. From there just start tracing back wires until you figure out the problem--this is why Electrical demons suck

Maybe something it loose and when you start it it wiggles down a bit.
I would think it's very odd to actaully get a brief burst of power then you start but stranger things have happened.

Here is my guess...
Something in your rear window mech. is loose. When the car is starting, or vibrating during starting... the window shakes and drops down just a tad. This won't let the defroster go on as the switch is registering the window as "open".
Can you move the window up or down easily with your hands? If so, you may need to figure out what is worn that allows this free play.

OK. For some reasons it is back to normal tonight after I got home, when I ready to take a look at it.
I don't really know why it happen this morning, maybe it is cold related. I will pay attention tomorrow morning.
It is a very pronounce window rolling down, not like something is loose. I could actually hear window roll down & stop.
Strange.
