Figuring mileage has nothing to do with how much it holds, but how much you've used. Gas tank capacity is listed a few posts down (18.5 Gallons).

Wink yer right,

...it doesn't. But, it will tell me about how far I can go on a tank of gas.

271.6 miles on the 13.341 gallons I just put into my tank=20.35mpg

sweet! better than I had hoped for!

thanks for the info Darren!

regards,
aaron

Hey 96 Runner,
Get this, my dad gets 25mpg in his 1996 4Runner!! He can go over 320 miles before the light comes on. I can't figure it out!! When my 4Runner was stock, I still got 18mpg, and his has the same options as mine; V6, 4x4, 265', etc. The only difference is that his is a 5-speed and mine is an auto..

Ok, that didnt make me feel any better!

I have noticed at higher altitudes (5K+) my old 98 runner Auto got around 19.

What the heck is going on here?

tankful!

hey,
that was my FIRST tank thru! (cool aye?)

anyway...most of that (85%) was highway driving....and the rest was 40mph 2 lane roadin' with my foot just FEATHERING the gas. I've got a nack for just barely press the gas and somehow keeping it at the speed limit.

mine's an auto too.

btw, at what point does the gas light come on....mine hasn't been there yet....is it like an 1/8th of a tank???

Not mine. My gas light comes on right on E. Then I have another 3-4 gallons to go.

The way I drive the majority of the time is "I'm not in a hurry, I'm not in a hurry, I don't need to be there 2 ˟˟˟˟˟in' mintutes quicker, I'm not in a hurry, I don't need a ticket, I'm not in a hurry" -feathering the gas.

I say this....and it was all ME driving that first tank full thru....now...my better half has the 4runner today and I've got the Camry. She's kind of a LEADFOOT!

so, I may be jinxed....that was mainly highway miles that first tank...I'll post my "other" mileage after I fill up the next time!

i normal get around 19+ mpg in my runner, no mods to the engine yet and running stock 265/70R16. most of my driving is on the highway though at a easy 70mph. it's funny when you still modding your vehicle, mpg goes down especially when you increase tire size without regearing.

i know when i did my lift and 35" on my taco, it dropped down to 16+mpg. then i did the normal mods to the engine (deckplate, elbow removed, k&n filter, and flowmaster muffler), my mpg dropped to high 15+mpg.

Just an FYI-

Since we both have 98's if my 4R isn't loaded heavily the light comes on when 2.5 gallons are left. Also I have run out of gas twice now. Once I was able to put in 18 gallons and the other time 17.5.

Personally, I dont think the mods themselves (that I have anyway) are directly responsible for my poor gas mileage (15.8) last fill-up. Its due to my windows down, sunroof open, exhaust and intake blaring, mentality. I just love the sound of my Runner. I realize its not "fast" but dang that 3.4 sounds great opened up.

I need to back off on the gas a bit!

Where'd did you managed to pick up a set of tires in that size? Poland?

I got around 19-20 mpg with my old 265/75's and now with the 285/75 I get about 15. Of course half the tank is spent on the trails in my neighborhood and the dirt mounds here and there.

Post mods / mileage

i'm wondering too if MODS would directly effect yer mileage. I wouldn't think so much that it would. I mean, with the deckplate mod, yer only effecting how much air the engine intake can see- you'd THINK that could only IMPROVE the milage. Likewise with exhaust. But alas, I am green and new to all this...hence, prolly offbase...but the tire/lift thing makes sense...
