Question 98 4Runner SR5 Keyless Entry

Well it finally happened...I traded my '91 4Runner for a 3rd Gen 4Runner(98 SR5 V6). The dealer gave me a key with remote buttons on it (lock, unlock and panic), but i can't find anything that tells me how to program it. I've searched every post about keyless entries on this and many other sites, but haven't found anything about my particular system. I'm guessing it's not the RS3000 because of the differences.

I've noticed that in most posts (like bob's), it is mentioned that the brain is under the driver's seat. There isn't anything under my seat. Also, i've noticed that my "valet" light is different from all that i am seeing in the pics. It is just a single light on a black panel on the dash where the normal indicators are. Could It just be that I have an aftermarket system?(the key has toyota on it, so i figured this wasn't the case) And is there any other location that the "brain" might be located? I'm posting before i go to the dealer to avoid insane charges.

thanks in advance for replies

Try popping the hood and looking for an aftermarket brain or control box. Other than that you might give the dealer a call and see if they noted it anywhere during their inspections. Good luck bro.

Key

Is the remote a keyless entry and key built in together, would look like the shape of a guitar?

Remote

Ok here we go:

1. Place key in ignition and turn to "ON" position.

2. Press the red button to the left of the steering wheel a total of 6 times. You will do it in 3 series double tapping the button each time. For example, turn the key on and tap tap pause tap tap pause tap tap.

3. If you have done the previous step correctly the vehicle will honk once. Once it honks, press the lock button on the remote, the vehicle should honk again. Double tap the button once more, should honk once more, and press the unlock button on remote. Should honk once more.

4. Now the green button is either for the panic function or it can also be for a remote start button. Normally we leave it alone, if you want to see if your vehicle has it then call me. The directions are too long for that one.

thanks or the instructions, but i think my problem might be worse than i thought...it looks like the module either isn't getting power, or is shot. I guess i'll have to go see the dealer about it after all.
