Any help in identifying this clunk would be greatly apppreciated!
Recently completed my lift using Tundra struts and LC coils. I have also done the Panhard drop bracket and the longer swaybar end-links. There is a pretty noticeable clunk or pop from what sounds like the front passenger suspension. I thought it was my end-link because it was loose on top, but it's still there after tightening it.


This only happens when I'm going forward and turning right. Not left, and not in reverse. Sometimes there is a single clunk, sometimes two. Severity of the clunk is directly related to how extreme the turn is and how fast.
Any ideas would be great. I'm including a link to a video I took. It's a tiny bit muddy, and there's grease flung about from the CV's that I'm told is normal after lifting. It's a little long, but I figured it would help in diagnosing the issue. Also, excuse the beginning. Had to clean the lens! Thanks!

This isn't very reassuring when there's almost 70 views and no suggestions

 

Blown CV...slinging grease in not normal but lifts can cause them to fail quicker.
Upper or lower ball joint play?
Something not installed correctly with lift?
Bad wheel bearing?

 

If it were a blown CV, wouldn't it be a consistent thing regardless of direction? As for the grease, I flipped when I saw it. I did some searches and discovered it's pretty common. Change in geometry and the boot slips enough to let grease escape.
I had my alignment done at Firestone, paid for the lifetime thing. Been back twice in a month because it wasn't right. This last time I spoke to them, they stated the joints all appeared to be fine. However, I'll be checking them tomorrow afternoon.
I'm pretty confident the lift is all installed correctly as this has over 1k miles on it and it just started this noise.
I appreciate the suggestions, hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to report back with good news!

How many miles on the truck? It certainly sounds CV-like to me.

My original halfshafts were still fine at 300,000 miles when I pulled them to do other work.

Thanks! It has just under 200k miles. I'll probably reach that by the weekend. I checked the cv's and they seemed ok. The passenger side had a little more play than the drivers side. By play, I mean on the inside flange I could put upward pressure and it would move slightly. There is zero rotational play. Any other way to check them?

 

Play at the inner 'cup' where it attaches to the ADD assembly (pass side) or differential (driver side) is normal.

The noise may by CV related since the position of the ball cages relative to their cups has now changed. Maybe.

I thought that was normal but wasn't 100% sure. I'm in a tree stand right now, but I plan on doing some more work to it today if it warms up any. I wonder if they got the alignment cam bolts to spec this last time...

 

Was all that work done at the same time, without any driving in between?
I'd check for anything coming into contact with something its not supposed to, it should be a shiny spot.

Also, I'd temporarily remove/disconnect the sway bar, and see if the noise remains, just to eliminate that as a suspect.

 

Funny you mention the swaybar. As soon as I left the tree stand I removed the end links. I just finished driving it 45 miles and came back to update when I saw your message.

After removing the end links, I haven't gotten a single clunk. They are new links so I'm not sure why they're making weird noises like that. Unless it's the bushings?

 

Why were the end-links replaced? Can you put back the stock ones, and see if the clunk comes back?

It could also be one of the 2 mounts that attach the bar to the frame.

 

The old end links were replaced because they were loose and the bushings were shot. I trashed them when I put the new ones on. The bushings on the bar itself don't appear great and I plan on replacing them as well.

 

I've replaced my sway bar bushings numerous times over the years. The front ones take a great deal of abuse. They start failing on the inside and eventually squeeze out the sides of the mounts. Then it's just metal on metal...

Yeah, I really prefer the extra stability from the sway bar so I'd like to fix the issue. I'm going to order some poly bushings sometime thiss weekend and hopefully get them on early next week.
