I have recently purchased a 97 4runner Limited 4x4 v6. The AC didn't work right and it only needed a recharge. I did that and now when I have the AC on, the throttle sounds alot louder. When ever I hit the gas I can hear it, sounds like a whhhhoooooo sound.
I heard the noise and turned the AC off and the noise was still there, but went away shortley after. Everything is stock, but with the AC on it sounds like a Cold air intake is installed. Power feels the same, just a louder throttle sound.

Is this normal?

I know you said everything is stock, but DO you know if your truck has the ISR or deck plate mod done to the factory filter air box? Both of this mods will make the truck sound as if it had an after market intake system installed.

 

Maybe one of the plastic attachments to the intake tube came loose when the AC work was done?

 

I don't know if it has those mods, but wouldn't they have the motor always sounding like that? This only happeneds when the AC is on and its hot. If I turn the AC on when its not that hot outside it doesn't make the sound.

 

When I run my a/c I get a low hissing noise from under the right side of the dash that is linked to the throttle position. I think it is caused by air in the a/c lines. I did my own version of the deckplate mod, since I don't go off road I cut the entire front side out of the airbox and it makes a hell of a growl when I get into the throttle. I think some investigation under your hood is in order...
