97 4Runner Limited A/C issues

Good evening, all!

Hopefully, someone out there can assist me with this issue.. Basically, My A/C stopped working today. What better time than the beginning of summer in the sunshine state.. I already executed a search, but didn't get the results I was hoping for...

Anyway, here's the rundown of the issue - for several days prior, there was a clicking or tapping noise coming from the front of the A/C compressor. With the hood up, I observed the pulley looking "loose" for lack of a better term, and moving back and forth..the belt squealed several times while accelerating as well. The A/C continued to work fine, and the clutch seemed to engage when hitting the A/C button. However, on my way home today from holiday festivities, the A/C light blinked off and began to blow warm air. When pressing the button back in, still no light. I busted open the owner's manual and found the fuse- blown. SOOOO, I replaced the fuse with the good one from the fuse cover and cranked her up. Engaged the A/C.. Success! NOT! 3 seconds later, the fuse blew. I looked into the engine compartment and saw that the clutch will not engage..

Is there a good tech guide for a compressor/dryer replacement...or do i have a simpler issue?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you guys and gals can offer!

Since its 10 years old, that is about it for compressors and especially true for places where there's a hot summer.

Compressor is on a simple circuit so if the fuse blows, too much current is being demanded i.e. the clutch. So, time to replace compressor and clutch given its age. You can do just the clutch but if compressor has to come off, to do the clutch, then its compressor replacement time plus new clutch.

My $0.02

and its actually roor runner. don't really want to explain what a roor is just google it i suppose. i wish i could go back and alter how i write my name
