Hi, my buddies mom was recently involved in a fender bender nothing really to the Tacoma but now her check engine light is on .... any ideas?

 

Loose connection. Also helps to know if 2wd 2rz 2.4, 3rz 4wd or 3.4 4wd.
Unplug battery for 15 minutes might reset it..

 

How about some details on the accident itself? Front end damage? Rear? Etc. my first instinct is to guess something with the fuel system. The sensors can detect something as small as a loose gas cap, so if any damage was done to the EVAP system, even just a cracked line, it could throw the code. Your first step should be to take it by an Autozone (or similar parts store) and have them scan it. Do this BEFORE you clear the code. Write down the code number and description, then post it up in here. At that point, you can clear the code, and it may never come back, but if it IS gonna come back, it most likely won't be immediately, and could take a couple weeks until all the proper readiness codes are set.

 

Ok very minor front end damage like a dinged front Bumper. It is a 96 4x4 w/ the 2.7 5spee, the 3rz I believe.
