96 4runner front hubs small cap removeable?

u know how when u take the front wheels off..and even if u take the rotors off..you have just the hub left over?...well that center cap thats factory sealed on there...it sounds like somethings rattling around in there...

my question is.....is there a way to take that black cap off to see whats in there?...or does it have to be broken off there?...

yes that black cap comes off will take a little effort the rattling nose could be a broken cotter key

About the only thing possible to rattle around in side that cap is the Cotter pin as Elton stated, or the castle lock washer (which would fall off if the cotter pin failed)

yeah...just so you all know...the cotter key was perfectly fine...there is a castellated type-nut on there that doesnt screw on..but its purpouse is to hold the main nut on...and its loose yet the cotter key keeps it there....thus the rattling...but its not a bad rattling...so were all good

I'm guessing that the castle nut is a thin metal one that goes over the main nut, Right? If so then it does just kinda float there. You could stick it with some RTV, that wouldn't hurt anything.

Ya gerdo your right. That's exactly what it was. I don't mind the noise now. It just worried me cuz I thought the cotter key broke.
