96 4runner braking vibration
I have a 96 3.4L 4x4 4runner with a vibration in the pedal and steering wheel during braking at anything but low speeds.
My 4runner was stolen last winter and fortunately and unfortunately they found it, with minimal visible damage. They repaired the cosmetic stuff and the more we drove it the more things started to go wrong (of course insurance wouldn't cover any of it).
Anyway after we got it back when braking there was tremendous vibration that shook the whole dash and steering wheel. I guessed the rotors were warped and replaced those and found that my steering rack bushings were also shot and replaced those too.
Everything was fine for a while now I have the same problem all over again (not quite as bad). I don't really want to replace rotors every 8 months and was wondering if anyone had any insight into this problem.......
Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if there might be some other contributing factor to the vibrations other than insufficient stock strength in the brakes. I had like 190,000km on the stock rotors with no problems, then only like 7 or 8,000km before I had the problem again on new rotors (aftermarket slotted and cross-drilled).
What year of Tundra rotors and calipers are being used?

be sure to get the rears checked as well... if the rear brakes are not working well, then the fronts are taking the brunt of the job of stopping the truck, getting over heated etc, etc, etc.

Vibration while braking is almost always the rotors. The after market rotors may or may not be any good. If you got drilled & slotted rotors, you may also have more aggressive pads which could cause more heat buildup in the rotor. Try some OEM or Brembo rotors. You might also check the wheel bearings & rod ends.
