i was looking at a 92 4x4 pickup today, its priced at $2k, 130k, very good condition, only problem is the speedometer is not working, and neither is the odometer. is this a big problem? easy to fix? i really want to buy it but dont know if it entails a lot of work to fix the speedometer/odometer. by the way the guy bought the truck last year at 110k and put about 20k in one year, he seems to be telling the truth.

 

Well it's probably either a bad speedo cable or a bad instrument cluster, but you should be able to get a new cable for under $100 or a used cluster for around $50, and neither one would be difficult to replace. Good luck

 

This has turned out to be a common problem with that year truck and 4runner. I had mine replaced for $450 by a dealer. The speedometer was something like $250 to $300.
