Unhappy 91 4runner headache

i have a 1991 toyota 4runner 3vze that wants to choke down when i press the brake.it idles like a dream,when driving down the road coming to a stop press the brake and it chokes down.also this morning i noticed that at speeds above 35 when i take my fott off the gas it does the same thing. please help

What do you mean by "choke down"? Does it slow the idle to shutdown levels? I'm just trying to make sure I understand what you mean before I make a guess...er...I mean try and give advice

it boggs down rpms fluctuate and then it cuts off

Idle speed too high.

The 3vze computer features a nifty 100% fuel cut when you have the brakes on and the RPM is over about 1500. Saves you gas and stuff. But, when the idle is set too high, the fuel cut kicks in and out as you slow down or when the brakes are on at a stop light. Sucks, huh? Good thing it is an easy fix!

ok i idled it down to 700 rpm and problem still exists what next fuel filter maybe.

mine has done it for a few years havent figured it out yet fuel filter didn't change anything

Depends and, not necessarily.

It does'nt hurt to check it out and you may be able to do it with the diagnostic check procedure.
