Question 85 runner pulls right when braking

Every time i stop, i have to counter-steer to the left. There isnt any vibration, it just pulls right. Is this my brakes...or do i need a wheel alinment? Please help me solve this problem.

The caliper could be having a problem, but mine did this because of a collapsing brake hose. The hose begins to collapse when brakes are applied and the caliper does not press like it should. If it is pulling right, that means the LEFT brake hose is the culprit. The right caliper is stopping like it should, but the left is not. If you change the brake hoses, change them both at the same time. just a suggestion based on what experience I had. Good luck

Idk...ill have to look that up in my chilton manual. Im not stupid, im just not an auto mechanic (yet). I do, however, have loose steering linkage on the drivers side. Maybe that could cause it?

thats probably why, if you look down at you driver side spring, you will see a rod a little over a foot long that connects your pitman arm (the arm on the steering box), to the "J" arm which is attached to your knuckle, on both ends of that rod, which is called a drag link, there is a cotter pin, take out the cotter pin and tighten the adjustment screws on each end of the rod, then line up the slot on the screws and reinstall the cotter pins, that should take care of your loose steering

just had the right caliper replace on my 93 runner. one piston was siezed and caused the pulling. pull the opposite wheel and caliper and check the pistons by pressing them into the caliper. you will probably find one that wont move, there be your problem. hope this helps.

My 85 did the same thing plus my braking sucked. I had a two stuck pistons on the passengers side caliper and the pads were almost gone...the drivers side had hardly ANY wear. I just replaced both of the calipers with new loaded(new pads, pin, etc) ready to bolt on calipers from the auto parts store. It was about $105 for both sides and I improved my braking 10 times over.
