Alright guys, I was thinking and sometimes that is dangerous, however, tell me what you guys think...am I crazy, stupid, or whatever. What if we were to take Fab-Techs 6" Tacoma coilovers and Downeys rear 3.5" with 3" spacers? Would that just freak out the vehicle or would that work? In my mind it seems feasible, however, I wanted to ask you guys....being the pros you are Anyhow, just an idea, would be a little costly but hmmm...

I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but from what I've read for over a year on ODW and this forum suggests the real problem would lie in the CV joint angle. What I hear is that it's not good to go over 3" with a lift, and even that is really risking it. I suppose as long as you addressed this somehow, it would work. I'm not sure you'd be able to get around that though...

 

Hmmmm I wonder, I saw a third gen on a flat bed with what had to be a 6" lift. Not SAS'd so I wonder how it was done..I do not want it, I am awaiting SAWS and Downey Rears for my rig, just was trying to think how it was done, totally custom maybe.

 

The fabtech is more than just a coilover. It is a differential mount drop bracket system. It lowers the mounting point for the front differential, thus keeping the original CV angles. Just like the trailmaster and pro comp.

The rear end cannot properly handle 6" of lift witiout reworking the 5 link setup. Not worth the time and money to do that.


You probably saw a 3" suspension lift and 3" body lift.


Just bite the bullet and put a solid axle underneath your rig. Thats the only way to go in my eyes.

If your rig is too nice to do that, buy an older one.


You all are going to be jealous soon as Im sporting a solid axle, 37's, 5:29 gears and lockers!!

 

I think your '88 4Runner is awesome Adam. It looks to be in great condition on the outside. It sure would be fun to fix that up for some heavy 4x4'ing.

 

As money and time permit. After Christmas time. I figure the lift, gears, lockers, tires, wheels, ect will cost me over $5500. ouch.

 

At 6" you will need to look at your brake lines and driveshafts for over-extention. The brake lines will likely need to be legnthened even if its 3" body and 3" coilover lift. If the diffs are lowered measure the splines while they are disconected to be sure they won't sepperate on the trail. The rear could be good old leaf springs and the tacoma lift setup.

Its possible. Of course, everything has its price.
