5VZ engine differences, HELP!

I am going to be swapping out the 5VZ from 96' 4Runner that as a wonderful 211k (Gotta love yota!) but is in need of headgaskets and the such for a newer lower milage engine (52k) from a 97'. Anyone know of the differences if any? I am a 2rz/3rz guy myself and wasnt sure what years the 3.4 went to coilpacks and the such. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

That should give you no problems at all, just a straight swap.

if you only need new head gaskets then why swap??? 211k miles is actually low for the motor to be kaput! i know gusy with over 300k miles on there 3.4

I realize that, but its my sisters Runner and I am too busy to do her headgaskets and she has over heated it already once. So I got a line on a low milage 5vz and she should be trouble free rather then do the heads now and then more ☺☺☺☺ in 6months.

i understand that... when you over heat isnt the head gaskets about the only thing that it will affect the most?? thats assuming that she caught it overheating and shut it down soon after... sorry just asking questions

Typically the heads will warp a tiny bit thus loosing the seal the gasket creates in turn loosing water. Good old cause and effect. I jsut figured while shw was at it just go with a low milage engine since she loves the Runner.

The ECU pinouts are the same. The 97 ECU looks for an additional VSV for the air cannister but since you'll be using the 95 ECU it shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry I meant to say you'll be using the 96 ECU.

Like I said, the sensors are all the same for those two years (96-97) and he's not changing ECU's or wiring harnesses so all the ECU pinout stuff is irrelevant. It should be a direct swap with no issues.
