On later 3rd gen 4Runners there is a birds eye view truck inbetween the spedo and tach. Does it light up when 4wd is on or is the Diff lock? Its not on all 4wd models...is it just the ones with the push-button 4wd?

20014Runner here, wheels light up green with 4wd, center diff lights orange when center diff locked. Sorry, can't help with other questions.

no, the wheels only light up green. there is an orange circle in the middle of the pic of the truck to indicate that the diff is locked.

The orange light lights up on my 99 when the truck is in 4wd, which means the center diff if locked. When in AWD mode, only the 4 wheels light up green, to indicate each may have power, but the axles aren't locked together. There is no diagram that indicates when I have the rear diff locked, but there is a "rear diff" light on the dash down below the speedo or tach (can't remember which) that illuminates, as does the switch itself when the locker is engaged.
