Is this the front diff breather for the 4th Gen?? If so it will defintely not need a mod. It seems to go down to the front diff.

Mine has 2 of them there -- front and center breathers are side by side.

 

Mine has one there too, and I also have a V8. How come the SR5 V6 has two side by side while we have one?

Automatics don't need a breather - your dipstick tube serves that function. Possibly the V6 tranny needs the breather due to internal pessure problems

 

I think they are saying that they expect to see breather tubes for both the front and center differential, not one for the transmission.

 

Yup, need that wash soon. At least the rest of the runner is clean.

My 2004 V8 has only the one breather tube. So, it seems that the 4Gen V6s have two breather tubes and the V8s have only one. Does anyone have an opinion as to why this is?

What did you use to get it so clean??

 

Got engine degreaser at Kragen auto parts here. Spray it on, wait a couple of minutes, use paint brushes in some tight spots if needed to rubit in and then just hose it out. It takes about 10 minutes to clean the whole compartment.

 

So, while I am still waiting, hoping for someone to offer a reason as to why the 4Gen V6 has 2 breather tubes and the V8 only 1, here is another question:

I have no answer yet on the first one, still waiting for my factory manuals. But your transmission does have a dipstick, next to the engine oil dipstick. It has a little clip to keep it in place as well.

 

Well if you look at the AT dipstick they normally have a rubber seal on them.
Thus meaning the don't like to drink water the could enter the trans. when you wash the engine compartment. Remember that the AT is a hydralic transmission that works under pressure. Water in the transmission is a bad thing. Most AT's breathers are located at the top of the case and point down.
And could you imagine the smoke cloud you would have if for some reason the At got hot enough to pumpfuid out the breather tube allover your hot engine. Sanderd transmissions are not hydralic device can take water on as soon as they cool from a deep water crossing. That is why they have a checkvalve on there breather. That helps to shut off the breather when you have water at the level of the breather. If you have towo breathers mabe you have a stadard trans or it could before the transfer case.

 

Darn, I still can't find it! I see the oil dipstick but no other dipstick.

I am thinking that there might be a different transmission in the 2003 vs 2004 V8s.
