Could you post or pm me the dealership that you took your 4 runner to? My dealer is giving me the run around saying that the DRLs can not be disabled.

If you call the service dept. your going to want to talk to "Dwayne." He's my service rep and he'll probably tell you where to look. As I said, it took a few times before they finally figured it out.

Print this out if it helps any... I'm going to take it down later tonight.

So there are two options to disable DRLs. You can either replace your flasher relay (see the part identified in my previous post) following the procedure described by Yosmany, or you can have the dealer reprogram the ECU. The factory service manual doesn't mention this as one of the many vehicle customizations but since the DRL/turn signal flasher gets its inputs from the Body ECU, it's certainly plausible. The receipt above pretty much confirms it.

Either way though, the cost is about the same ($31.65 + shipping). If you go with the flasher solution, you can always swap back later on, for free. Moreover, it's a scam that they'd charge you $36 in labor. It couldn't take more than 5 minutes to make that change with the OEM handheld tester.

I knew that's what the cost was going to be _and_ didn't know about the relay at that point in time. Turning off the DRL had been discussed on this forum quite a few times.

$36 might not be what you are looking at, I think it is dealer dependent. I asked the price before hand and agreed to it. I just wanted the damn things turned off and I got what I wanted. I always check and agree to prices before I have the work done, I have seen way too many people show up at the payment desk and have a $300 tab when they thought it was a $75 job. Our dealership is very competitive with the local shops... our Nissan dealer is a dyed in the wool thief, they should point a gun at you when you pay there.

BTW: Toyota didn't tell me it could be done... I told the dealer that to motivate them (hey is says you can in the manual and it's written by Toyota...) it obviously worked.

I did it and it worked. I added DRL. All I did is replace the factory flasher relay (81980-50030) with the the DRL flasher relay (81980-35020). And the process can be reversed.

Is there any one out there that want to disable their DRL and wants to buy my non-DRL flasher relay?

I couldn't find anything in my manual about it. Do you know what years have that filter? I've never changed it.
