4th gen amsoil air filter - weird fit

just installed an amsoil air filter on my '03. the fit was less than perfect. it bunches at two corners and causes wrinkles which have to be letting air through. the part # is ts162

anyone else have the amsoil air filter in their 4th gen?

That does not sound right at all.

Call AMSOIL tech and ask them what the hell is going on.

I am pretty up to speed on the 3rd gen filters, but I have never seen a 4th gen one. Hell I have never seen a 4th gen V6...

do the 3rd gen amsoils fit pretty snugly w/o any gapping? i still have not seen a 4th gen v6, but i guess they are a pretty viable machine according to the comparison thread here on yotatech.

The older style fits very snugly. Nothing is getting by that filter.

Recently AMSOIL made an upgrade to the airfilter. They added a ring if harder blue color foam to the filter to give it a better seal in the type of air boxes that clamp down on the edges of the filter when you snap the box closed.

I have not seen one of these new filters in a 3rd gen box, but I have heard that it has had the oposite affect causing a less of a positive seal in the 3rd gen box. I have no idea how that applies to your airbox and filter.

Didn't know they have a 4th Gen filter now for the V8 or V6?? Maybe double check that they gave you the right part.

Also I dont know if the filter will get you much with the stock inlet to the airbox. I dont know if anybody has attempted a declplate mod on a 4th Gen yet, probably no real reason as they are pretty powerful in stock form.

I've got the older style for my first gen, had to take the rubber ring from the old filter and put it in there with it or the box was too loose to keep from popping open. Been fine since. If they havn't added a rubber gasket I'd go with the K&N.

I had the exact same problem/question about a month ago and a couple of people said it was alright and would eventually form fit. I'll have to check it now that it has been in for about a month. (the one person even said they contacted Amsoil about it)

Please reply with any info you get on the fit of TS162, I am very interested in anything you find. Thanks.

I have been running this filter since about 1200 miles and am now on 11000. At first it was a tight squeeze and was wrinkled around the edges, but it was large enough to compensate. When I cleaned it at 10000, it had twisted to remove the wrinkles and slid in just right. I don't know exactly how long it took, but it did form to fit.

I had the newer one with the blue ring on the outside. I scrapped it, it doesn't fit snuggly at all. I wanna find one of the other ones, got the paper in right now.

finally got on the phone w/amsoil and they are wondering what the heck is going on as well. they said they spent many hours measuring it out at a dealership. i am going to take some pics and send them in. in the meantime, they offered a refund w/o me even asking! do not find that kind of customer service much any more. i will keep you posted.
