4Runner vs Tacoma valve body

I own a 2002 4Runner (auto obvisously) I recently drove a 2002 Tacoma (auto) and noticed that the Tacoma's auto shifted much more firmly. Are these the same or is the 4Runner valve body designed to shift softer?

I did a valve body upgrade on my 04 Tacoma and my friends 00 4Runner and they are the same valve body. The newer truck tranny is totally computer controlled and has an additional solenoid instead of a cable going to the throttlebody. Looking at them side by side--they are identical. Tranny shop said the same.
