Thumbs up 4Runner Polishing Convention

Loosehead came down to Albuquerque today to try out the Zainos Polish that I've been using. And Albuquerque Jim came over for awhile to check out the Mods we've done. Jim has a really nice looking 2000 Millennium Silver Highlander with the Deckplate and ISR Mods. Loosehead and I have Hood Scoop envy now :pat:

Anyways back to the Polishing.... Loosehead has a Red 98 which had some oxidation on the hood. I used my "Corey Cable" with a yellow cutting pad and 3M Fine Cut Rubbing compound to prep it for the polish. It was the first time I tried the Fine Cut and it worked great!!! It took out the oxidation, swirls and some of the smaller scratches with ease.
We then wiped his Runner down with the Z-1 Precleaner and then mixed up an ounce of Z-2 Polish with the ZFX and 1/2 ounce of Z-5 with the ZFX for the hood. While Loosehead applied the Z-2 to the sides and top I did the hood with the Z-5 to cover the remaining swirl marks.
In all we put 3 coats of Z-2 on the sides and top. The hood got 2 coats of Z-5 followed by 3 coats of Z-2. We wiped it down with the Z-6 between coats and after the final coat of Z-2. I used PakShak Microfiber towels for wiping off the polish and the Z-6 applications.

Here's the results:

So, I think we have another Zaino convert. I just hope he didn't get pulled over for speeding on the way home in that "Glowing Red Runner"....LOL

just spray that stuff on and whipe it off. no actual washing your car with a hose. unless of course you go offroading and get mud everywhere, gotta hose that off

L33,

See your pic w/ the sunlight on your hood? My wife used to have swirls/spiders just like that. They are most visible under flourescent light.

Zainos cured that problem after 1-2 coats. I'd say that it reduced the visible appearance by 80% after the first two coats. You can *barely* see it now. A few more treatments of the swirl remover and it should be done.

I was great to meet loosehead and ALBPM this weekend. It's cool to actually meet people who share the same sickness that I have, 4Runneritis. You guys both have great rigs.

I think I will also do the gutter guard mod after seeing it in person.

And, I told you I'm next for the Zainos treatment.

Well, I guess I should chime in now and post a couple more pics of our afternoon fun. I am very impressed with all of the gear that we used on the truck. The "Corey Cable" did a fantastis job of polishing, and the Zainos, in my opinion, can only be described as 'the ˟˟˟˟˟'. I am very pleased and will definately be investing in the 'Corey Cable' and some stuff from Zainos.

Lets get onto the pics. This first one show some of the scratches and oxidation on the hood. Its kinda orangy-white in color:

This next one of the hood is really cool. You can see the reflection of me holding my camera above the hood. Take a close look at those strange white marks in the paint, thats not swirl or oxidation, but a relfection of the clouds over head!

This last pic I took on the way back home, it was right at sunset, and the skyline was absolutely incredible. I love sunsets in New Mexico! Check out the reflection in the hood...

I'm glad I finally had a chance to meet a few forum members in person, and hang out and talk about 4Runners! Paul, I can't say thanks enough!

Cheers!

How long does it take for the whole Zaino process and what do you need? I think my desert dune is up for Zaino

It took Loosehead and I a good afternoon even though he had previously clayed it and washed it before coming over. We ended up putting on 3 coats of the Z-2 mixed with the ZFX catalyst.

The longest part is the Prep work. You may want to clay it first. Then if you have a Porter Cable use 3m Swirl Mark Remover or if it needs a lot of work get the 3M Fine Cut Rubbing compound. You have a clear coat so the 3M SMR will be safer to use. You will need to wash the Runner after using the 3M SMR and then start the Zainos process.

I recommend getting the ZFX Flash cure additive. It will allow you to apply up to 3 coats of the Z-2 or Z-5 otherwise it's 1 coat and wait 24 hrs for it to cure. Applying Zainos is fast. It only takes a very thin coat and you apply it to the entire Runner then when it dries wipe it all off.

So, unless you have someone to help it could be a long day or a weekend to Prep and polish.

The Desert Dune should look great with a few coats of Zainos. My runner is Dorado Gold which is a light gold color. I also use Zainos on my wife's White Tacoma Pre-Runner and it looks amazing as well. You can also use the Zainos on your chrome and plastic such as the grill and light covers. Zainos will not stain black rubber and plastic trim like other polishes do.

I almost forgot.....

Get the Z-1(Pre-Cleaner and Polish LOK), Z-2(for your clear coat), Z-5 (to fill in swirl marks), Z-6 (gloss enhancer) and I recommend the ZFX Flash Cure to apply more than 1 coat a day.

Their tire gloss Z-16 is great for tires and black rubber trim and I use their Leather Treatment Z-16 for my interior.
