4Runner on Motorweek
Wow
I just saw the 2003 4Runner on Motorweek (Montreal area (Vermont PBS)). It was nice to see the Runner in motion.
I did not listen all that much since I was concentrated on the images but I heard the guy talk about a smooth ride, some body roll, 17/20 mileage for the 4X4.
It looked nice in motion. Still the look is weird a bit but I think it will be a design that people will get used to except maybe die-hard off-roaders.
I think that 3rd gen will be the classic model of the 4Runner, you know the model that sticks through the years and that people can easily identify.
So watch at your local PBS listing. MW IS showing the 4Runner (no embargo)

Cool. I just went to our local Seattle PBS station and there is no entry for a Motorweek program.
They sure got ticked though that I had those pics up

I still really like the 2nd Gen 4Runner Style. All right I am a little biased, because I own one. But in my opinion the 3rd Gens just seem a little too "Pretty" to offroad. But that's just my opinion, no offense to any 3rd Gen Owners. I find that I still have to look twice at the 3rd Gens to see if it's actually a 4Runner, but the 1st and 2nd gens I can identify right off. I Don't really like the look of the new 4Runners (the 2003) they look way too much like a ford explored (especially the new explorers)
Anyway that's just my 2cents

I have been reading up on that link above.
They say this test took place in Oregon. This must be the same outfit that had the two Toy's down there when Paul got the pics from awhile back.

This article says: There are big changes too in the 4Runner's engine bay. Last year's 4-banger is replaced by a new all-aluminum 4.0-liter, dual-overhead-cam V6 with 245 horsepower and 283 pound-feet of torque.
For the 2002 model year...the 4 banger wasnt even available

Saw the new 4Runner on Motor Trend this morning. It was a blue limited model. I think it looked good. I really liked the two engine choices although it seems like the V8 will only be available on the limited models I think. I hope I'm wrong. Can't wait to see it in person.

I just watched Motor-Week, and the 03 looks good in motion...
Just my two cents here but I think this rig will grow us on all!!
All I hear is moaning from everyone saying the 03 looks like total crap therefore it is!! I have an idea, why don’t you find out ALL the facts before you give your all-prestigious crap ratings!!! I'm kind of "iffy" on the body style too but in reading the "undisclosed information", watching motorweek this morning (although they did a CRAP job of reviewing it) and other tid-bits I have picked up in the prior weeks I think this thing will surprise us on what its truly capable of, it truly has been thought out, give it a chance!!
The only thing I see the downfall of the 03' is price, because this bird has so many bells and whistles a base 2WD SR5 is 27,500  .. (03 Models are SR5, Sport, Limited).. Try and find a guy who is going to shell out 33K for a base 4WD Sport just so he has a good wheeling vehicle…..
