4Runner lodging (not dial-up friendly?)

Coincidentally...
I have spent the week building a storage unit that works with the rear seats up or down. It provides an excellent sleeping platform (the main goal), as well as providing some decent storage. Woodwork is finished and carpet is installed Sunday after church. Pics and brief write-up coming soon...

just my two cents, I have a similar set up to darrens that I have found to work very well.
*pics taken off server*
the screens insert into the window channel and have a channel like ( /\ ) at the bottom that the window goes in. all I did was cut the rough size and started triming, I rolled all of the edges over a few times to give a little more support and strength.

Sounds cool, but where are the pics?!Bruce, cool deal on the Explorer II tent. I was wondering if anyone was using one.
George, I'm still wating!
idotmyi, that screen setup looks pretty good. Do you tuck the tops and sides into the rubber door seal, then? I REALLY like the looks of that fan with the adjustable arm. Looks like a bigger blade then the Coleman one, too, so it looks like it would be more effective. What brand is that?

Actually they're made from the cheapest black cloth I could find. I had an old thread with pictures, but the pictures are gone now. Luckily I just found them on my computer.

The nice thing about curtains is that the giant glowing alarm clock in the sky doesn't wake us up at the butt crack of dawn. But I get the feeling you're an early riser. Me on the other hand, I hate mornings...

Was thumbing thru cabelas last night...
They have 12volt electric blankets and they have those cargo area drawer/organizer platforms.
I was wonding if maybe instead of raising the entire floor, a person couldnt maybe just put up two of those low profile cots to clear the wheel wells, and give a little more elbow room for two sleepers. Might have to mod the middle leg on one side of each cot maybe.
Being able to sleep in the back comfortably is why I got a 4Runner instead of a PU.

Darren: Cool screens! I have a chunk of screen that I wrap around the rear door - the screen stays in place when you close the hatch. I've used the same sort of magnets before as well.
I like the looks of that Explorer II. It would work well with my bed/shelf setup:

oh dear... I think I promised pics of my setup about a year ago.
Simple and strange writeup can be found here:

I *like* the screen idea!!! Had several nights on the last trip where we had to close up for bugs that made it a wee tad unpleasant.

Well today I had some time and was looking at the stuff to make a set up like Scottiac's when I ran across the screen isle and decided that in Texas it gets way to hot... and circulation is a must. As posted, I have screens for two windows but only the two are really not enough. I bought the cheapest roll screening they had that was not metal (my others are made from metal screen) and came home.

all I used where three coat hangers (bent and taped together), the screen, and zip ties... It's really sad at the moment but this weekend I am going to recut the screen and I am thinking of sewing in a channel that is the shape of the window and then getting some wire that is very flexy but will not bend and hold the shape... that way it will mold into the channel better.
hope this gives some of you guys and gals good ideas.
ps. Darren, the brand of the fan is o2 cool I got it at target. and yeah all my screens go in the rubber window channels.

Took a snapshot of my bed before I took it completely apart.
Twin size mattress, couple fleece blankets for a base, and a couple down sleeping bags zipped together topped off with a couple pillows.
Almost more comfortable than my real bed.
Almost.

If you have a 2nd gen, invest in a small mattress for it. Not an air mattress, not a Thermarest, an ACTUAL mattress.
Well worth it for long trips. I just spent 2 weeks in my rig and it was great! All the gear got stuffed up front or on the rack.
