I guess my first question is...are the liftgates the same? How about the paint codes? If I remember correctly, the paint is slightly a different color. Can anyone verify this? The liftgates look the same.

I am going to say they are different. I bought a 00 4Runner in green, and it was different when compared to my 96. Only way to be sure is the paint code, but I think you are right.

The paint is different in a 1999 for sure. The earlier models have an Evergreen Pearl and the 1999's (and later I think) have what is called Imperial Jade Mica.

PS - Go Dawgs! I graduated from UGA in 1997 and I am guessing from your avatar that you went there as well.

Kevin,
Yeah GOOO DAWGS!!! 1995 here. That's what I thought...just my luck. I could have gotten a 97 complete liftgate for around $900. I'll keep looking.

What takes you to CO?

My love for the outdoors. . . backpacking in general! I miss all the trees back east though. BUT, the mountains here rock and I just bought my 4Runner and can't wait to put it to good use this summer. I have met a few people on this forum that I hope to tag-along with on some trails pretty soon. Talk to you later.

Bummer about the 97 liftgate. I wonder how much it would cost to get the stealership to paint it for you? Might be worth looking into.

no kidding $1400 is steep. I am looking for a 99 complete used lift gate as we speak. If that doesn't pan out, then I'll try and go new...
