When I get home I'll see if I can get the mirror off my wifes Runner and take a picture of the element.

That would be cool....but don't have her come after me if you break it.
Seriously, I think this would be a very cool mod to do for many!!!!

Those kits are too expensive....I would just go to the boneyard and get some off a 99+ for that price. I just need to find the heater elements (I'd be willing to spend like $25 each for em). maybe someone that works replacing auto glass might know where to get em?

Someone in the thread I posted had a place to buy just the element.....not the mirror.

So far the closest thing I could find is this
http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF.process?pdf=4502
These might be too thick, the one in the picture looks under 0.020".

That is getting close......looks like they are 0.05" thick.
There must be a company that supplies these to auto manufacturers.
Thanks for the help guys....keep posting if you find anything good!

I dug through the McMaster Carr book today at work and came up with Ultra Thin Kapton Heat Blankets. Search part number 35475k18 and then view the catalog page. They're about $30 each depending on the size.

Alright, it's been a year...

It's been over a year since the last post on this. Has anyone found a practical way to have heated side mirrors as an aftermarket item? I had them on my '98 Ram, really miss them on my 4Runner.

Here is a company that supplies heating elements for mirrors ..

http://www.burcoinc.com/Related_Products/redi_heat.htm

Come in 3 sizes and can be cut to fit.

Haven't tried them but may in the future ... mirrors seen to ice up a lot in this weather.

cheers,
