I have a 2003 Tacoma xcab 2.7 5spd. non elec shift 4wd. I recently changed the clutch and ever since putting it back together, it wont shift into 4 hi. goes right into 4lo and indicator light goes on, but the light does not go on when i shift to 4 hi. any ideas as to what this could be? is the shifter re-installed wrong?

 

I have a '99 5spd 4Runner. I had the exact same thing happen (No 4H, but 4L was fine) after a dealer did a clutch job. I made them fix it, of course, but they said it was just a loose wire on the tranny. Hope this helps.

 

How does it go into 4Lo if it will not first shift into 4Hi?

Sounds like you have the shifter in backwards, and you are actually putting it in 4Hi
