3VZ-E Water pump tips?

Hello. I have a 95 4runner w/3VZ-E and a 5spd. I understand it is possible to replace the timing belt without removing the timing belt or crank pulley. Any time-saving info would be appreciated. (I just got the truck, did the t-belt, and somehow neglected to do the water pump)

PS I have the press-in t-belt tensioner.

PSS Will coolant left on a t-belt over 4 weeks or so damage the belt?

Any info would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Hey,
On your tensioner, by pressed in, are you talking about the non-hydraulic tensioner that comes on the 90-mid 92 3.0s? Did you swap in the engine? If you have the old style tensioner, then you may have to get the waterpump for the older 4Runners. The tensioner actually isn't pressed on, but it does fit pretty snug. I thought mine was pressed on too since it was all rusted, but turns out it came off with some light blows with a hammer.

I know the older waterpumps have that little pin that the tensioner connects too, but I don't know if the newer one has the pin and just isn't used. So, just make sure you tell the dealer (or whoever) what you have.

Hopefully that's not too confusing.

Oh, you do have to remove the crank pulley to do the timing belt, but not the waterpump. I think you meant waterpump instead of timing belt in the first part of your second sentence.

You are correct I am a dumbass. It has the hydraulic type tensioner. Also the first time I pulled it apart there were no seals between the the plastic covers and the fan mount. Are there any schematics of where these seals go? (I have searched already) Thanks for the replies anyhow.

Hey, no need to call yourself names. You already know more than I do when I first joined. I just learned alot from folks around here, so just passing it along. Great place here.

About the seals, are you talking about the black seal that lines the edge of the timing cover? I'm pretty sure you can buy them seperately at the dealership.

Yup im about to do my water pump and while im at it I guess ill do the timing belt bc it has about 150k mi on it.
