3RZ Compression Check
Changing out my spark plugs today and at 150k/mi I just wanted to do a compression check. What numbers should I be looking for? 2002 Tacoma 3RZ. Truck runs great, never had any issues with it (I put all 150k on it) just keeping up on the maintenance. Thanks!

So you don't have an answer either, Fordless? I suspect you looked at this thread because you want to do a compression check on your Toyota. You searched all of the "compression check" threads but didn't find a solid technique for checking compression on this motor, or any other. Like, what numbers are within spec? Engine hot or cold, plugs in or out, fuel pump connected or not, gas pedal floored or not?...etc.
When you looked you saw nothing except my tone of frustration. Rather than doing something constructive you tried to diss me. Only further proof that this forum is lame.
For what its worth, and for those out there who might have the same questions that I did: my 2002 3RZ had 160 psi in all 4 cylinders. Engine hot, all plugs out (put new plugs in while I was in there), fuel pump connected with the pedal to the metal. I don't know if this is the preferred Toyota service department technique (since I didn't get a reply, or find a link anywhere on this form) but it seemed to work best for me. With the fuel pump disconnected, as a friend suggested, the numbers diminished. Any explanations why? I can only guess that without fuel it would have been a "dry" check, but its not like gas seals, or even lubricates, the cylinder or valves. Stumped on that one. What do you think?
Bottom line, I only wanted to check because I was doing some service, had a compression checker and was curious what others were doing. I was also told that these forums can be a wealth of info so I signed up. Honestly, its a bunch of jibber-jabber. I'll stick to owner's manuals, thanks.

Well honestly if you were looking for information from strangers you went about in the completely wrong fashion. We are not required to answer your questions and after being called lame, what person would want to. We are not your google search bar. Yes I do know a compression test procedure off the top of my head, b/c I used to be a shop tech. But I'm lame so why should I share said information with you.

To be completely honest with you this isn't the best forum for tacomas. This is mostly Hiluxs and Pickups. You may wanna try tacomaworld.com. There's a lot more traffic over there related to the newer trucks.
Also your compression numbers sound just fine. I wouldn't worry about that motor too much. She's got easily another 100K in her.
