After months of planning and reorganizing the rear cargo area, I finally have enough seats for the whole family. First, I had to move the subwoofer from behind the rear seat and design a new box for it over the passenger side wheel well. Then I wanted a spot for the second battery and power-block so I made a box for that over the rear wheel well on the driver's side (the top of the box is hinged for access to the batt and cables).
From there I needed a seat to fit in between and found a wrecked Jeep YJ rear seat which fit in perfectly plus it was a fold and tumble forward design so that worked out geat too. Then I made up a mounting base out of 4" "C" channel steel so that I can store various stuff under the seat.
Here's some other positions:
I also opened up 2 spots in the rear of the base to accomodate the portable winch's reciever end so that it now just slides in and sits there securely without it sliding around the back when I'm climbing up steep hills etc.
Very impressive! I have been considering a location/mounting for my sub and amp this gives me some ideas on how to go about it. Nice job with the seat mounting as well. I use my truck for hauling items on occasion so the third seat would not be a good fit for me but if you have a larger "clan" then this is a gr8 idea. you should write up the produre for the install as I am sure it would be a gr8 addition to many other 4runners, WELL DONE!
wow now thats soem impressive stuff. you could probaly find a cheap seat cover the same color as your interior. thats just awesome. major props to you my friend
wuts holding the square seat mount down is it easily remove able? I would like to do this kinda thing, except i would like to make it removable seeing as how i haul alot of stuff.
I realllllllly like those sub boxes!!!
I have been trying to find a good way to mount my subs after they were stolen...long story.
Do you have a write-up for the cabinets??
i like the install, looks great! Time for a cover to match. I think that winch will look better in the back of mine though, so feel free to hand it over at any time
6 bolts through the floor backed with extra reinforcing to prevent any pull through in case of an accident.
^BajaRunner^ Any rear end sag with all the weight back there?
Nope, not too much. Actually, I wanted it to drop more as she sits pretty high compared to the front as it was with the lift I have.
The seat is kind of ugly I agree and I'm keeping my eyes out for a nicer one from a YJ that also has headrests this time (not sure if they come with them or not though).
22R-to-5VZFE what do you hook your portable winch to? your receiver? do you have a front mount receiver too? how does that work? any problems using it?
Yup I have a receiver hitch on the front and back that my winch slides into. In the front under the hood is a quick connector and in the back there is a quick connector as well inside the frame beside the spare tire. It's one of the best mods I've done to date!
I'd say it works (pulled out my buds diesel Ram from being stuck up to the axles) :
When you built the boxes in the back, are they square around the wheel well or did you curve the MDF?? I am ready to start this project on my truck and what you have is perfect!! I will need to make a few changes, but I am still trying to figure out how to deal with the wheel well....
did you take pictures of the fab?

Look into the Bestop seats like I put in mine if you want the headrests. Mine was like $260 shipped for it with all the hardware and it matches good enough for me.
