3rd gen valve gasket replacement
1996 V6 4x4 with 183,000 miles. Waited too long to do this maintenance. Took me 5 hours with help. The biggest problems we ran into were getting the wiring out of the way when removing the covers and getting the old spark plug seals out of the valve covers. The plastic on those things were so brittle, pain in the butt. All in all was a pretty easy task. Best part was I saved $510 by doing it myself.
Also, YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE THROTTLE BODY TO DO THIS. THE THROTTLE BODY WILL COME OUT AS ONE UNIT WITH THE MANIFOLD. I read this in several post that people removed the throttle body.
QUESTION: since I waited so long there is a pretty big mess on the back and bottom of the motor from the oil leaks. Whats the best way to clean that mess? I need to see if my oil pan is leaking but need to clean the mess first.
It's real tight in there and not going to be an easy task not to get stuff all over me in the process.
