3rd Gen Snorkel
#21
The snorkle was $250.11 with a 3 day delivery from 4x4 connection. Curtis the guy that took my order e mailed and called me to tell me it would not fit because it was designed for a Taco, but I told him to send it anyway and I would make it work.
4x4connection.com
I have spent alot of $ with this company and have been very pleased with the results. They carry TJM ARB OME and all types of other things.

I cancled my order with 4x4connection do to the time it would take to get it drop shipped from ARB. I did order it from 4 wheel parts wholesale and it will be here on Monday for $252.09. I really wanted it this weekend:cry:

Sorry no write up. Real easy, just drill 4 holes, pull the wheel well out bend the antena thing out of the way (10ton bottle jack) paint the holes and run the plumbing and then put it back together.
Now no more drinking

So who knows. When the daily driver arrives (2 weeks) and no one buys my 3rd gen...I just may take it on. But until then Ive just decided to stay out of the water.

Id use one of those electric exhaust cutoffs (T - Cutt off) to choose between normal air intake or the glovebox. So when I off-road Id vent it to the glovebox, but for normal driving, Id use the stock intake. Little complicated, but pretty cool I thought and came to $150 in parts. Problem was the firewall and not having a garage to do the welding in.

That must make a horrible sucking sound inside the cabin...
......anyone complain of popping eardrums..
..not to mention if you forget to take the old registration out of the glovebox before opening up the new electronic valve..... ......
......
JK man, ingenious, I like it.
I was thinking that someone should make the airbox vent to the grate right under the wipers. Would be pretty easy to mold a new piece that fits in there and just run some tubing over there to hook up to it.

haha..thanks. I actually ran into a guy that ran it behind his glove box. Said the only problem was the humming sound it makes. But his truck was for trails only, so he didnt care one bit. But the T Cut off would solve that problem.
The only thing I couldnt figure out is the air filter. It would be much easier to tap into the intake AFTER the air box, but then I would need another air filter...but fabbing one up shouldnt be too hard.

You should be able to fab one up pretty easily and if you can't weld, just sketch your idea and take it to someone who can. With a little ceverness you should have something pretty slick. Maybe a visit to a bonesyard might prove fruitful if you can find one off of another make that would work in the space......time to earn your engineering stripes!!!
May be a bit tough to create a Y at the throttle body for a full time quick switch but I will be curious to see what ya come up with. Whatever you do I want some pics posted!

Hehe...SAS first, then snorkel
or maybe both at the same time
Only have $470 though (damn wedding). TIGHT budget. But hey, I got my "new" front axle for $150, so Im on my way to success. Figure I can sell my front suspension to help out too with the $$$.
Engineering stripes? Funny you say that. Got my degree in computer engineering, but all the EE and ME guys say we dont know squat about "real" engineering. Hopefully, this will set them straight.

Instead of a snorkel, a guy on the pirate board put an elbow and some pipe on the stock air box, and ran it into the A/C fresh air intake. Here is the thread http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...light=snorkel. A 3rd gen should be even easier since the intake is already back by the door.

Snorkel write-up
Just added a snorkel install to the Tech section in the Off Road area.
It's on Rob's Taco, but the info should be the same for the 3rd gen 4Runner.
I believe I have read before all you need to get is the Tacoma intake tube from Toyota that goes from the throttle body to the airbox.
This will allow it to work on the 4Runner.
Or perhaps it's some other tube, but it will work.
44Runner will have more info on the tube you need.

Thanks Dave.
I called my local dealer, and he confirmed your part # was correct.
I put a link on the description to Rob's write-up pointing to a text file with the part #.
https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/techpage4.htm
All this is making me want one now

The 4Runner pipe will work fine. It slips on and you tighten the clamp and go swimming. Do not waste your $ on parts you don't need. The only prob with the factory 4runner pipe is that I feel the connections are not totally watertight when sumerged, but a little silicon will fix that.
