It pushes air that is going over your roof down your back window reducing dust build up. It doesn't work if you have a rack on top of your runner though, just fyi.

They work just fine if you have a roof rack, else why would toyota build trucks with spoilers and roof racks?

It also acts to push exhaust fumes out the back window, so you don't get that bad smell and eye stinging exhaust while the back window is open.

I'm not talking factory roof cross bars, i'm talking additional racks above them. I guess i'm alone and my roof rack is extra good at ruining the aerodynamics over the roof.

Lol on mine it does work by reducing dust. When i first got my truck i was constantly cleaning the inside cause it was sucking in dust all the time. Then when I had my new hatch put on it had one on it and now it doest suck in as much dust. Its kinda cool.

You have to drill into your tailgate...six holes.

If you are asking about the rear wind deflector, yes it does make a difference by reducing the amount of dust and water that would otherwise end up on the rear window.

If you are like me and couldn't bear the thought of drilling into your rear hatch, you should also consider the Jaos Rear Spoiler. I think that they look awesome and I wanted something to make my rear more complete. They are a bit pricey though. Around $320, but worth every penny IMO. If you are interested, I got mine from burtmanindustries.com

Exposed metal is always susceptible to rust. Collect shavings, de-burr the holes, and apply a rust-resistant primer to the newly exposed metal areas. Paint over the primer if you wish.

Here's something to get that rear end looking good.

Burtman Industries

We widened the legs to cover the old holes from the Toyota unit, if you have it. Can't be stolen, and can be taken through the car wash

got to you local bone yard (yank-a-part), pull off a factory deflector and take the pillars it mounts to. Measure the location of the holes and size, make marking templates from light cardboard like the type used in t-shirt packing, and go fo it!

Alternatively, you can get the whole tailgate so you don't have to drill the holes. Did some came from the factory with the wind deflector installed?

90%+ of 3rd gens came with the metal delfector on them. It's pretty rare to see one without. The issue is they rust out, and many like the new filberglass rear wing with LED since it updates the truck.

In over 100+ over these trucks that I parted I never once saw one rusted out.

Must be a salt state issue?

It's one of the reasons people go for these. Japan JDM style rear spoiler 3-4 days to make, then will ship out, 2-3 days to ya.

Besides the other reason - making it look more current with other suv's of today.

They always do that, they think the american market won't like these cool things for some reason. That's why I made it here and it's avail

Oh, it does help with more downforce over the factory unit, but you must be going 90 mph+ - and less dust buildup, but these are mainly bought for looks.
