I currently have a 00' 3rd gen. I have the LC rear springs "Stock fronts with spacers" and it's got a bit of a rake to it now. If I do the Tundra coils, bilsteins and a dif drop kit, is there any thing else I will need to finish this setup. I was going to take the LC's back off and put the stocker springs and spacers back on but I see the Tundra coils are an option. How's the ride with this setup in the front? I really would like to keep it a stock like ride. Thanks

The ride depends on the shocks you put in with the tundra springs. I have the HD bilstiens on with mine and its a bearable but rough ride. I would go for the blue TRD dbl-cab tacoma springs.

Also get a bamachem spacer with the tundra coils, it'll give you an additional 1/2 in. of lift.

You might still have some rake but it won't be so noticeable

 

I was looking at Gerdos rig and he used the Yellow/Yellow and Blue/Yellow coils from a 2000/02 TRD Tundra with the Bilsteins and SS diff drop kit. Are those the same springs your talking about. Is there anything else I should be aware of? What about the skid plate, there was some issue on Sonaran steels site about doing a mod on it......? I dont want to get into this and realize I need something else. I like the rear LC coils for towing and I'd like to keep them and just change the front.

 

Yeah the B/Y Y/Y are the 4x4 TRD springs are the ones that you want to look for. You can also use the 4x2 TRD springs color codes are purple/red yellow/red. I have a set of these and they give me 2 in of lift up front. The 4x4 springs will give you a little more.

As far as the skid plate goes there shouldn't be that much modifying you have to do to it. I don't have a diff drop so I can't comment on the skid plate. Someone else may chime in on that.

 

the lift is barely a 3/4" difference between the 4x2 trds and the 4x4 trds, hell im not even raking hardly with my two top outs and trd tundra coils, i have 3.5 inchs up front or so. they give 2.5 inchs of lift just with the coils only.

Do you have to do the diff. drop when doing the Tundra coils? Or is it just choice? I guess cost isn't really an issue. $45 bucks?

 

I have Tundra coils with OME "firm" struts. The ride is decent. It's a bit "jouncy" over potholes and uneven street surfaces (read: everywhere in Denver), but highway ride is VERY nice.

I installed a diff drop kit just for peace of mind.

 

Really the diff drop would help the most when your CV's are at extreme angles. This doesn't happen very much on normal daily driving. When I installed my tundra coils I noticed the angle at which the CV changed wasn't much at all. But if your going to be wheeling your rig, you'll want to have'em.

 

What's the deal with the top out spacers? I notice like half the people use these? Is this something else needed?

 

Top out spacers will add to lift height. I did not use the top out spacers because I was matching the TRDs (1.75" of lift) with OME 890s ( 2.75"-3" of lift) Mine has some rake but not too much. I like the rake I have. I love the ride that I have with the TRDs, OME 890s, and Bilsteins. Great at low speed, High speed and High speed fire roads. Firm but not harsh.

 

I am still using the stock Skidplate. I did reinforce it with some 1/4" treadplate that I had, not necessary. I did have to modify the original skid for the SS Diff Drop (instructions came with the drop)(I did have to "persuade" two bumps where the diff bolts still wanted to hit the skid.) I also bent the big diff washers in the front to help clearance. I can take some pictures if you need. I know that I don't "need" the diff drop with just the TRD coils but I figured it can't hurt. Cheap insurance. Some people do the "Ace Hardware Diff Drop" That is a inexpensive way but the SS Drop is angled on one side for the angle of the diff.

I did not use any spacers at all, just the original hardware/bumpers. This is what I have added for my lift. Specs: Tundra TRD Coils. Left, 48131-AF100 (Yellow/Yellow). Right, 48131-AF090 (Blue/Yellow) Old Man Emu 890 Rear Coils. (A Coil goes on drivers side) Shocks: Front, Bilstein F4-BE5-2450-HO. Rear, Bilstein F4-BE5-2451-HO. (Yellow Body and Blue Boot) I reused my Bilsteins because they are still in good condition. I like the ride. I bought the springs from http://www.trdparts4u.com/

I also installed Poly swaybar bushings from http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/4runswaykit.htm . And rear swaybar end bushings from AutoZone.

This is the best thing that I have ever done to a vehicle. Great ride and handles the cargo and the trailering that I do.

 

Interesting thread! I'm having the same issues with my 02 with LC's in the rear. My front needs to go up some to match the rear. I'm debating between the TRD's with 1 or 2 topout spacers or the 3" OME 882 springs. Any thoughts?

 

I'm not really sure how much I'm going to need to balance it out. But Gerdos running the 890's in the rear and from what I've found, those give basicly the same lift as the smaller LC's I'm using. I've only found a couple people using spacers and diff drop kits so far. I really don't do much off road stuff but I agree that it's cheap insurace for the 45 dollar kit just to put the diff kit in. I don't know about the spacers yet? Is the spacer needed? I don't know?

 

I 've got the OME 890's in the rear and the Tundra/bilsteins with one top out spacer up front with that I've got about a 1/2-1 inch rake in the front. Not to noticable. I know if I put another top out spacer up front it'll even out.

I'm running 285's and mine doesn't seem to be that tall in the rear. I only have a 2.5 inch spacer and the stock springs up front and there doesn't seem to be that bad of a rake. My LC's are from a 94 or 95. There's a difference in the height with the landcruiser springs between the years.

 

2 inch bodylift will change the look some lol.

 

What kind of spaceers are being used? How much and who did you get them from?
