Steve or anyone, do you think that OME coil #881 (medium duty) and diff. drop kit will do good enough without hurting the CV joint? I have been reading around the forums in the past, I could not see a real answer on the CV joint problem/solution on 881's and diff. drop kit.

Right now, I have #880 coils on my rig. It has been good for almost 2 years (55K miles). I am planning to install new TJM T-15 alloy bullbar bumper (Prado version) directly from factory in Australia, I am going to swap out the coils for med. duty one. A local 4x4 store offered me 49 Dollars each coil. I like the SAW's, but too pricey.

I would try the 881's and add OME trim packers as needed. Once again, SAW's are fully adjustable and worry free. But yes they are expensive.

With only the bumper and no winch 881's should be fine, with maybe a trim packer or two.

I thought the OME trim packers are only available for the rear coils?

Scary huh? I was able to put hose clamps on there tonight after I took the pics. I had to drive to San Jose and back tonight (40-50 miles RT) and saw no signs of additional grease splatter. I'm not doing any more driving like that until replacement springs come in. Hopefully the band-aid fix will keep things together till then, and hopefully I can get something worked out with Mike tomorrow. SAW's are tempting, I just don't know if I can swing it. If nothing else I'll go with the 881's.

Here is the deal with the hose clamps.

1. I put them OVER the stock Toyota clamps. This is what caused the boots to be cut.

2. Everyone else cut the stock clamp off and just installed the clamp.

Sounds like you did what I did. $400 bucks for new boots. SAW's looking cheaper yet?

Yes they make them for the front as well.

I used a thin strip of towel to cushion the edge of the hose clamp. I snugged it down, but don't think it was nearly enough to cut the boot. (keeping fingers crossed).

Talked to Mike this morning, I will hopefully have replacement 881's by Saturday. I just have too many other things going on now to plunk that much down for SAW's.

What are you expecting for lift with the 881's- closer to 2 inches?

What a heck, I am going to think about buying the SAW's instead of 881's. I hope my wife does not read this. Thanks anyway, Steve.

It sounds like either Steve really, really likes his SAW's or he's somehow making commission off of them, or both.
BUT:
How often do the SAW's need a rebuild and what is the cost of doing one. I remember reading a write up in the tech section on how to rebuild them and it didn't seem to be an easy task.

Are they worth the price tag and the required maintenance that goes with them?

Also, mertztr: Use a large zip tie if you don't trust the hose clamp.
I had my truck serviced at the dealer for an alignment and they were nice enough to use one on my passenger side and not charge me. I went and put another one on the driverside and haven't had any problems. MAKE 'EM TIGHT!

I think I remember reading in that write-up that the re-build runs around $100 or so for racerunners.

Yes the 881's should bring me to 1.5-2 " in the front. I decided that if there's some snag with getting 881's from Mike today, I would opt for SAW's. I have to call him back in a bit to see if the 881's can ship today. If not....cha-ching. I REALLY REALLY hope my fiance isn't reading this.

I also found this thread from Dr. Z concerning aftermarket CV boots. The boots themselves aren't that pricey at all, but I don't know what labor is like. Steve was that $400 quote including labor, or did you mean it would be that much with also replacing the joints?

Vibration

Question for all with hoze clamps.. Do you get vibration with the clamps on..?
I put clamps on because I was getting Grease splatter, but then the steering shook like crazy, granted it shakes a bit any way because my Mudders are not balanced but it appeared a lot worse with the clamps on.
I changed to HD zip ties and it's better but I am still getting grease weepage.
Just wondering how the clamps affected your balance..?

Thanx

Would you please let me know how things go after installing 881's? I am pretty curious about the result. Right now, I have not make up my mind about purchasing SAW's or 881's? Thanks....

Your boots should stop leaking as well. See if they do before you mess iwth the clamps. You'll have to cut the stock cloamp off with a grinder. It folds shut and has locking pins.

Yes, I'm hoping they do stop leaking. Thanks for the tip on removing the stock clamps, if I do have to go that route!
