3rd GEN 4Runner 4WD Conversion Parts

i found a complete front end off a 3rd gen 4WD 4Runner @ a junkyard. it's bascially the front frame sawed off so it has the diff, axles and complete front suspension. no driveshafts, tranny or transfer case. He wants $200 for just the front diff but i'm sure he'll sell me the whole thing for $250ish since my friend is buying a front axle and a bunch of other stuff for his SAS from him. Is this a good price? How much should i expect to pay for the transmission. transfer case and driveshafts?

THANKS!

1999 4Runner SR5

IIRC Casey (Nitro Hotpants) did the swap..I think there's a few threads about it.

u are going to want to make sure u get all the vacuum hoses and canister for the ADD diff. i spent 400 for the tranny and xfer case. and paid 650 for diff, axles, hubs, and spindles from a 97 tacoma with 70k miles on it. it would be much easier to get parts from a tacoma so you dont have to mess with electrical systems and vacuum lines. my swap was purely mechanical, no hoses, no wires, none of that junk.
plus manual hubs are cool!

yes, they will all have ADD. some tacomas 95.5-2000 will be available with manual hubs. be on the look-out for those years.

Can i run a ADD-equipped front diff and disable the ADD, then just add manual hubs? I only ask because every diff i've come across so far is ADD-equipped.

You're also gonna need the wiring harness and the ECU.

Depends if its an auto or not and weather you have an auto or not. I know that if it's an automatic then you'll need the ECU and harness due to differences in the tranny between 2wd and 4wd. If it's a 5 spd I'll be honest, I don't know much about them.

my plan was to use the 4WD auto tranny and the ADD front diff, axles and spindles. Then lock the ADD fork over and put manual hubs on. So I have all the ADD components but it will be locked to "on" all the time. I only wanted to do this since all the parts i've come across so far are ADD ones. Will this setup work?

It should work, but your going to be turning a lot of hardware up front. Your also gonna have to get new axles for the front. You can't just add manual hubs. There is a kit to do them though, not sure how much that is. If your going to use the 4wd tranny you will have to pull the wiring harness and the ECU as well.

the ORS conversion kit is around a grand, if you go from ADD to manual hubs. to be honest, be patient and wait for those taco parts, you will be happy when you dont have to try to "make" the ADD/Manual hub conversion work.
im not sure if you've tried www.car-part.com but give them a shot, its how i found my parts. good luck and be patient!
