35's without gears???

I am about to buy new tires and lift my '91 4runner at the same time. i will have a 4" lift. I can't afford to put gears in it yet so I was wondering how bad my 4runner would drive with 35's if I used the stock gears for now. what problems might i have with it???

You will be driving a snail. Guys complain about power loss going to just 32s and thats with the 3.4L. I wouldn't do it, but I'm sort of in the same boat, b/c if i'm going to regear, i want to put a locker in while i'm at it. Idono, its up to you, but I hope you will never be in a hurry

yeah, i'm use to the snails pace. I just don't want to have to buy tires twice within like 4-6 months. But I also plan to do a motor swap within a year so i've heard that i should use my stock gears with the motor swap. I want to swap in a 7mgte. by the way....do you know if the stock auto transmission will work in this swap??? no one seems to know thanks

NSCU-4Runner is the swap man, drop him a PM and pick his brain. He has been working on a swap kit for the 3.Slow I'm sure he would help you out if he could.

I've been running 35s for a while now, and yes you loose some power but its not as bad as i thought it was gonna be, i haven't had any problems at all.
my truck its slow taking off but i still can get to 80mph on the highway so i don't care. i'll be regearing soon thou!

At best, you would have 4.30 gears with the auto.

Running that with 35's would be really slow.

What tires do you have now?

What gears do you have now?

I run 33's with 5.29's and it is decent on my 95, but you will have more tire and a lot less gearing

Good Lord, seeing how I'm in a financial bind right now and I can't afford to keep my 96 E-locked Runer   I was looking into getting a cheep 93' Runner and SAS'n it right away and slapping 35s with 5.29s to compensate for the 3.slow. But yall ar running 33s w/ 5.29s and your still pokey. That fact alone scares me, if I ran 5.29s in my 3.4L with 33s I bet ya I could whip some rice rockets around here. Man once again it looks like I'm back to square one.

thanks for the feedback. I think I might go ahead and try the 35's without gears first. Then in a couple months I could gear it. thanks again

Stump.... don't back down that easily. I've got a 91 with 32's(previously 33's), with only 4.88 gears, and I have never had a problem with power or speed. It's the 3.slo and a 5 speed. I don't think you'll have anyproblems with that setup.

I just went outside.... and to give you a little idea of why I like my truck. Again, 91 4x4 V6 5sp 4.88 with 32's. I was able to go up above my house on a dirt road, with a nice incline, at idle! I put it in first, let out the clutch and it climbed on it's own. Tried it in reverse with the same results, it made it all the way up without stalling.
