33's and upper a arm clearance

i have a 96 runner ltd
with a 3" toytec suspension lift
the tires that came on the vehicle are 255\70\16
and they look like they might have an inch before they
rub the upper a arm
i am getting my 33's put on tonight
they look like they will rub for sure
did i mis a mod or will they fit without rubbing the upper a arm
i have a lot of money in this truck

I've test fitted 285/75 16's (~33") on my stock 16" wheels and they do rub on my rig...especially when the wheel is at full turn. I didn't even test while wheeling, but they'd rub there for sure, considering suspension articulation. I've read that stock Land Cruiser 16" x 8" wheels have enough back spacing to accomodate the larger tires. Other options include wheel spacers and modified upper a arm. Someone else will have to chime in with the name of the company that makes them, because I can't remember right off hand.

I just gave up and kept my 265/75 16's (~32") and they work fine on my stock wheels. Good luck!

As far as I know you only have a handfull of options. Im running the Sonoran Steel Toyota lift 3.5"rear 3" front. I have 2 sets of the limited wheels. On one set I have mounted 285/75/16 BFG AT's no rub at all on the a-arms of course in certain situation they will all eventually rub. On the other set I have 285/75/16 TSL SuperSwamperRadials which after I put them on noticed in fact they were rubbing but not very much it was just enough to light polish the tire all the way around. I didnt like this and posted about it. Come to find out the TSL's measure out 33.9" dia and 11.4" width . I thought damn what did I miss well Sonoran Steel sells modified uppers but I didnt want the down time , same with total chaos and a few others they sell them but I didnt want to have to wait and then install them and run into other problems. So I looked into wheel adapters and LC wheels at the local junk yard and on ebay everyone seems pretty damn proud of there LC wheels so then the next course of action was the hub adapters which I think Marlin crawler sells too. Some people say they suck they make your wheels spin un balanced bla bla bla. So I found some that looked to be the same quality as other on ebay and got them for $60 a set, then expressed shipped them and what do you know the swampers dont rub the a-arms but they do rub the fenders even more I figured you win some you lose some. but after adding the hub adapters and running my daily 285 AT's it looks good and I drive alot and also check the adapters everytime I have the wheels off. PM if you have anything else. By the way the I used a 1" hub adapter and it kicked the wheels out flush with the fenders, I also have the limited fenders.

it all depends on type of tire really, mine measure 33" and have only about 7/16-1/2 inch clearance on a-arm and on frame, but no rubbing. Obviously some offroading hard and/or airing down will rub bad for me. I have the stock 16x7 rims... Ive heard the 16x8 with 4.5 bs is best way to go, but its $$$ for me

I'm also running the OEM/Sonoran Steel lift on my 97 4Runner, And i'm running 305/70 (33"x12.5") GoodYear MTR's with 4.25" backspaced 16x8 wheels. And I have about 3/8"-1/2" of space between my upper control arm, and no rubbing at all!! The 285/75 Tires are 33" tall but are narrower than the 305's, I think there around 11" wide!
