3.slow dead??

Well I was driving last night cruising at about 65 mph when all the sudden I felt a loss in power so I gave it some gas and the needle wouldn't go any faster, so I let off turned my music down and heard a loud knocking sound so I immediately pulled over and shut the engine down. I got out and checked the oil(seems like I checked it before I went out of town last week but maybe I didn't) and it was below the L. I made an attempt to turn the engine over and it was very slow and didn't sound too good. Then when my dad arrive to pull me home with his truck I tried again and this time it sounded good when it turned over but it never would catch and start up...Could my timing be off? Thanks for any help!

I don't know what it sounds like, but I have heard that our 3.slow will burn one of the valves up with no warning. I forget which number, but one of them gets hotter than the rest for some reason and once it starts going it happens very fast.

UPDATE:

I found some 10w30 in the garage and decided to add a quart or so and see how it would do. Well I added about a quart and started her up and she seemed to be purring like usual, I got excited and turned the engine off, ran to the local parts store since I still needed some more oil, came back added some more started it up again, and it ran fine, until I decided to drive around the field! There is a loud knock in the top end of the motor maybe in one of the heads, so maybe something wrong with a valve? I hate not driving my 4 runner it sucks!
