I just changed my old on my truck for the first time. I wanted to put in Mobil 1 since I'm going to be pulling a trailor between SC and MD 2 or 3 times here shortly.

But I found the easiest way to remove the filter is to put one of the socket oil filter tools on the filter and stick about 2 feet of 3/4" extension through the driver wheel well. It lined up pretty good and came right off with no problem.

I spilled a little old removing it, and I took it off very slowely like someone mentioned above. So I just went to a car wash with undercarriage spray to clean it up.

Took me about 10 minutes from start to finish and I didnt have to remove any skids. Hope this helps someone...

 

Maybe you will be the example to others... anyways I like the cool whip idea, but at work I just let it all spill out then clean it up with shop soap that I have in a spray bottle. Rinse it off with water and good as new!

 

I also pack a bunch of paper towells in and around the skid plate. I don't go through the wheel well, I just squeeze my hand in the front with an oil filter wrench and replace it. Its not as hard as everyone makes it out to be (ex.taking out the skid, going through the wheel well). Bah, I'm 6'4 and 235lbs. If I can get my hand on it ,from the front by the alternater most people can. It just takes the right filter wrench.

 

yeah it wasnt as hard as i thought it was gonna be from reading others experiences....

Still not as easy as some vehicles, but as long as I can do it without removing the skids every time (everytime I take them out it seems harder and harder not to strip the screws back in) I'm happy....

 

I have also heard that a disposable diaper will soak up any oil the filter drops leaving no mess.
I have yet to try it myself (although I have no shortage of diapers in our house).

 

12 oil changes same bolts on skid plate.Takes me about a minute to take them off with an air ratchet.Sofar no striped bolts.Just hand start them when going back on.Also makes it easy if you go thru the wheel well to losen filter then take it off from underneath.

 

well I think my problem is I've been taking it the dealer for oil changes and they didnt take as much care putting them back in as I do....Now they are weird...
