The oil is not going anywhere. I put in 6.25 to 6.5 quarts and it stays at the full mark. I did realize that after doing the oil change I do have a leaking valve cover, and burning oil smell (going onto exhaust manifold) making me think the dipstick is wrong. I believe I will just continue to use 5.5 quarts from now on.

mine measured the same.

Baja,

Replace the valve cover (hopefully it is the passenger side), then change the oil with 5.5 qts and I'd be willing to bet it would read correctly.

I had a bad leak at the cam plug passenger' side, and until I changed it last year with the valve cover, I probably lost 1/2qt every six months (I change my oil once a year at around 5000 miles). Now, I have not had to add one ounce in seven months.

Good luck....

You were't messing around with the 3000 mile interval were ya!

I do not think it could actually take more than 6 quarts to fill the 5vz-fe. Something in the "weights and measures" category is messed up if it does, lol.

Personally, I just put 6 in my rig all the time because it's easier than 5.5. It shows maybe 1/16th of an inch over full when I put in 6.

My dipstick measures 19" as well.

Just to add more data, my stats:
2002 with a 90915-YZZD3 filter = 6qts (right at the top mark on dipstick)

Is that the larger filter?

See above post to answer that.

Baja, if its a toyota dipstick, it will have a P/N etched into it. Looks like XXXXX-XXXXX (10 digits total)
