3.4L 5VZFE Engine Noise Asking For A Friend
#1
Just kidding its my truck... 2000 Taco 3.4L 5VZ-FE 225K miles.
Has the TRD supercharger (TVS-1320) 2nd generation Magnussen.
Truck had been throwing knock sensor codes for a while.
Decided to bite the bullet and replace both knock sensors with the (frequently cooked) extended harness.
Also did the timing belt and tensioner / water pump while in there, upper lower rad hoses.
Ngl... I used cheap Amazon parts for the water pump and tensioner / timing belt.
After the job was finished I reassembled the engine and after driving it did not produce codes but started to have engine noise.
Noticed that on the drain plug for the oil pan it had metal but no flakes it is a very fine material almost like sludge. Greyish color.
I thought it was the supercharger rotors (as it sounds like supercharger rattle and was originating from top end / valve cover area)
So I had the supercharger sent to Jon Bond in Iowa (came recommended) and had it fully rebuilt. The S/C was in poor condition.
As per their inspection:
-Significant rotor wear / ceramic coating is missing
-Back bearings in S/C had worn needle bearings which were "throwing grease"
They rebuilt supercharger and ceramic coated the rotors shipped it back to me.
I reinstalled the S/C on the truck today and the engine noise has still not gone away.
Any idea what it could be? Video link below
EDIT : Truck does not leak oil / burn oil and checked for blow by (oil cap on loose) does not indicate ring wear...
