3.4 swap dead in the water
#41
Ok if im getting this all right i can bolt up the 3.4 to my old tranny with no mods? Probably will do a tranny rebuild while im there. Does anyone have a list of items that i must have off the 3.4 donor truck? Anything from the tranny do i need? If this is the case im gonna go look at this motor and try to get the swap going next week. I can get the ECU and harness off the donor truck, and i can do all the splicing myself. So now i just need to know for sure what else has to be done so i can get moving.

think about this
3.4 swap
truck down longer 2/3 weeks more $$$$
alot more work bugs to work out
hidden problems that accure NO SWAP is a drop in turn key
Need a 2in body lift more POWER
leaving in 3.0
less$$$$ less POWER
have truck running 1/3 days less problems
does your wife really care if it a 3.0 or 3.4 or does she just want the dame truck back and to stop driving the taco
can you do all the work that is needed to complete the job at you shop or will you have to tow it hear and there to get different problems solved exhaust, computer, wiring, trans etc

Yeah i see what you are saying. That has been my whole debate all along. My wife doesnt really care one way or another. I do pull a 2600# camping trailer with it so the 3.4 would be nice for the power but like you said 3.0 would be drop in if i go remanufactured which i can get for about $2000.00 including shipping. They are gonna kill me on shipping which is about $400. But its from Nippon Motors and im in Ohio. I think they are in Cali. or somewhere out West, but that would be drop in and go and a lot less time. Then i guess i could sell whats left of my 3.0 now for parts......maybe?

If it was an otherwise stock truck that my wife drove but that did have a slowly dieing engine, I think that the 3.4 swap would be the worst thing to do.
If you have the cash burning a hole, get a new truck.
If you just need transportation, get the new 3.0

sc's or a new motor.
What is involved cost wise with rebuilding the 4wd auto tranny?

if you want an easy swap, get the 3.4 4wd tranny and marlin's conversion for the transfer case.

When does it get too expensive to be worth the effort?
