A Woodruff Key is a captured key that is set into a notch in the shaft, then the pulley has a groove that slides over the key, tying it all together. You can see an example in this photo;

The key sets into a normally semi-circular notch machined into the shaft and looks like this; http://www.difflock.com/servicing/30...odruff-Key.jpg

Woodruff keys don't "release" as such. They are only there to align the pulley on the shaft and to keep the pulley from spinning on the shaft.

You should be able to use a pulley puller to remove the pulley, then you will see the key set in a notch or groove in the shaft, as well as the matching groove in the pulley.

I hope that helps.

If there like the 22RE P/S pumps, after you get the nut and washer off the pully should slide off with a little wiggling, mine did.

Keep track of the key, I put mine in a ziplock bag with the nut, washer and pulley.
